I bought two sets of these and am planning to buy more as stocking stuffers and gifts for friends. I use just the smallest amount of butter to line the poacher before adding the egg and steaming. The top of these poachers keeps them level while still allowing steam exchange when I put the lid on the pan. I serve the egg right in the cute poacher (usually with a napkin underneath to absorb any water). Clean up is easy - a little more scrubbing is involved if you don't use butter or oil when you cook.
