Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of L'Equip 306200 500-Watt 6-Tray Food Dehydrator, GrayCustomer Review: Easy to Use Summary: 5 Stars
I had been using an old dehydrator made out of a wood box, motor, and window screen trays, that was probably 40 year's old that I inherited from my mil.
My new L'Equip is a huge improvement!
I'm glad I got the L'equip as opposed to the Excaliber, because I find the stackable trays are much easier to work with than the pullout trays, and it fits nicely on my countertop. I thought I would use this in the basement, but I have been using it so much, I have made a spot for it in the kitchen.
When I was working with pullout trays before, I would spill food, and it was harder to see the progress of the project. The trays on the L'Equip are light weight and very easy to lift off of each other to see how each tray is doing.
The drying has been even through out, and I haven't had to rotate the trays.
I also like being able to set the temperature that I want for dehydrating, which I didn't have with my other dehydrator. My only wish is that the marks on the thermostat were marked with numbers, so I wouldn't have to guess what they stood for. Maybe the manual shows it, and I should check, but even so, it would be nice to look at it and know.
I have had the dehydrator two weeks and it has been going constantly. So far I have dehydrated blueberries (frozen and I defrosted them on a paper towel first so they wouldn't be dripping in machine), raspberries, bananas, peas, apples, onions, green beans, broccoli, and peaches. The bananas are delicious, and I have never liked dehydrated bananas before. Everything has turned out nicely so far.
My machine, came with two fruit leather trays. I have not used them yet, so I can't comment on doing fruit leather.
I am going to have to order more trays, because I am finding that the six trays are not enough for me. But I am glad that I can expand.
The clean up is much better than my old dehydrator. I just pull out the plastic liners and let them soak in warm water for five minutes. Everything, even the blueberries, came off with minimal scrubbing effort, without leaving a stain. I did not have to soak the trays themselves. Everything scrubbed off nicely, and the outsides of them just need a swipe with a washcloth. I'm very pleased.
I can't comment on the durability since I have had it only two weeks, but it feels like it should last for at least the warranted time, and the price is reasonable enough for that.
This was a very good buy, and has already brought quite a good return on my investment.
