Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Kyocera CSN-202-RD Adjustable Mandoline Slicer, Red

Customer Review: So much more than it seems.
Summary: 5 Stars

When I got this, my first thought was "Look at that sad piece of plastic junk." It looks flimsy and cheap.

I was proven wrong when I took an onion to it. It was sturdy, stable, and made short work of any vegetable I could find. Cleanup is fast and it doesn't take up much space. It turned out to be exactly what I was hoping for in a mandoline.

A few notes:

The included handguard is worthless. It doesn't hold food. So chuck it into the garbage and just learn to be more careful around sharp objects.

There is no blade guard for storage. There really should be. Like the rest of the thing, the blade looks like cheap plastic even thought it is not. I carefully saved the safety sticker that came with the blade and I put that back on after I've washed and dried the thing.

Customer Review: Kyocera slicer - VERY SHARP!
Summary: 5 Stars

I couldn't wait to get this slicer because my garden was overflowing with cucumbers and slicing them the old fashioned way was getting old. The slicer is super sharp and worked great. However, be sure to use the guard because I didn't and that super sharp blade took a large chunk of my fingertip when I got too close. I wasn't using the guard because it is kind of small and the items you're slicing tend to move around when you're using it (at least if you're trying to go fast). But, I will certainly be using it in the future. This accident was no fault of the slicer as there was a piece of tape with the warning to use the guard stretched over the blade so there's no way you can't see it when you open the slicer. I still love it and will use it often. I think the ceramic blade is the key.

Customer Review: Simple and Effective
Summary: 5 Stars

Bought this based on the high average rating and because it was part of the 4 for 3 deal. I considered other models that weren't part of the deal but looked more substantial, but am glad I went with this. It's very simple. The thickness is changed by rotating a bar behind the unit. Maybe I missed it in the packaging, but I didn't see any sort of instructions or manual (other than a product catalog). Not that I really need it, but I'll have to do some online research to see if there are any special care instructions for a ceramic blade.

Had it delivered about an hour before I started cooking dinner, got it out of the packaging, gave it a quick soak and put it to work on some onions. Simple, easy to use and effective.

Customer Review: great gadget
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this mandolin slicer. It is small enough to store and is handy to use. It works wonderfully. The ceramic blade is very, very, sharp. Not a tool you would want a child to use as it is extremely sharp and could easily cut someone if not used properly. I use it to slice potatoes, zuchinni, eggplant, and squash. All the slices come out uniform. This slicer is also adjustable to different thicknesses. I shopped around before I bought this. Other mandolines were either to big and bulky, too pricey, or could not be adjusted. This one had all the right features for the money.

Customer Review: perfect for the little things
Summary: 5 Stars

Mandolin by name - but really its a gentrified truffle slicer. Very few thickness settings, but enough to accomplish the small tasks - mostly quick and perfect sliced garlic, small onions, a rib of celery or carrot. Basically it is helpful when you need "mirepoix / mise en place" for two. Obviously the hand guard is a joke, and it cleans up quick and easy in the sink.

I'm not going to go into detail on the blade - if you know anything about these things, you know that Kyocera ceramic blades are the best in the business.
