Customer Review: Perfect Peeler is GREAT Summary: 5 Stars
This is the peeler of my dreams. Exremely easy to use. I have been using mine for over two years.
Customer Review: Amazing peeler, great customer service, & a couple of useful tips Summary: 4 Stars
I never thought I'd be writing a review about a peeler!! Books. Sure. Cool electronic gadgets, sure. But a peeler?
Well, this ceramic peeler rocks (no pun intended). So here's my review and a few potentially useful tips.
It peels beautifully. The blade is ceramic so it is not prone to getting blunt over time like a steal blade. Aside from wear, what dulls steel blades is gradual oxidation of the fine cutting edge.
(An aside - This is why good quality knives (made with high grade carbon steel) are best NOT put in the dishwasher. The caustic cleaning products accelerate dulling of the edge. Just one wash and they can lose their razor edge. Something similar happens with peelers, to some degree.)
Well, there no such issue with this ceramic one. The blade stays sharp. It is guaranteed for 5 years.
If you want a great peeler that will stay sharp, get this one, or one of the other similar types available. I've only used this one, so can't comment on others.
It really does peel beautifully, and easily. You can peel pretty much anything. Even mangos!
>> Two issues, and TIPS to avoid them <<
1) Ceramic is relatively easily chipped. So if you want this blade to last well I recommend be mindful of this. Avoid chucking into the draw with lots of hard metal kitchen utensils. More especially, avoid having it in a draw you rummage around in looking for utensils. With a little extra case the relatively fragile blade will be just fine for years to come.
2) This peeler has one weak point. The black plastic frame that holds the blade in place is not as sturdy as the rest of the peeler. The rest of it is very solid and unlikely to ever break with normal usage. But the blade assembly can break. Other reviewers have pointed out the same issue. Mine just broke today. I came online to find out about replacing it which is when I found the Amazon reviews for this product. One review gave the number to call in the USA, which is: 1-888-700-7371
Yes, these peelers have a five year warranty. I phoned Kyocera, they asked a few questions (how long have I had it, what was I peeling, is the blade okay, what part broke, what is your address and name and email). Voila. A new one is on the way.
This was a GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE experience. So have no fear. If you break your peeler, it should be really easy to get it replaced. Free.
To avoid problems with this second issue, my advice is this:
- Don't apply unnecessary force when using this peeler. The blade is sharp, so you can be relatively "gentle" and it will peel wonderfully. It won't stand up to the same amount of pressure that can be put onto a normal cheap peeler. Heavy handed men (myself included) would be wise to take heed of this.
- Make sure the blade is always turned to the correct position before peeling. Most peelers have the blade orientated in line with the handle. But this one is best used with the blade turned (yes, it turns with a knob) so that the blade runs across ways, just like you see in the product pictures on this Amazon product page. This means you pull the peeler towards you while using. People not used to this idea may not put the blade in the right position, and will try to peel in a sideways motion like they are used to. That is how mine broke. It puts pressure on the blade frame in a way it is not designed for and in effect it stresses the one weak point on this peelers. It also doesn't peel so easily that way, so it is more likely the user will apply too much force.
If there are heavy handed people in the house, let them know how to use this peeler before setting them loose in the kitchen!!
>> Four Stars <<
It is because of the weakness in the blade assembly that I have given it four stars and not five. If I could give it 4.5 stars I probably would.
>> My recommendation <<
Yes, I would recommend this peeler. Do I prefer it to any of other models/brands of ceramic peeler? I can't say. Never tried them. Will you have to be ultra careful of it? No. Mindful? Yes. Is it worth it? FOR SURE!!
Happy peeling.

Customer Review: Excellent Peeler but the blade mount could be sturdier Summary: 4 Stars
We received this peeler as a wedding gift and it worked great for about a year and a half. Unfortunately, the little tabs that join the blade assembly to the body seem to be the weak point in the design and the blade assembly broke free from the peeler. The peeler is somewhat pricey so, rather than replace it, we went back to using a no-name peeler. After a few days of using the no-name peeler we realized how much the Kyocera peeler had spoiled us for the time that we had it. We broke down and ordered a new Kyocera peeler from Amazon. I have read that Kyocera are very good about replacing those peelers where the blade has broken off but, unfortunately, we threw our broken peeler away after a failed attempt at gluing it back together a few days before I read those reviews.
The fact that we would buy a second $17 peeler after our first one broke inside of two years is a testament to the usefulness of this tool. I have nothing but good things to say about its utility in the kitchen.
Pros:
Peels well, no binding
Blade extremely sharp (and stays that way)
Rotating head
Fits well in the hand
Cons:
Plastic Tabs that hold blade on are too small
Aside from the tiny tabs that hold the blade on it is well made and an excellent peeler. I would strongly recommend it and intend to buy another for my parents shortly.
Customer Review: Great Example of Ceramic Superiority Summary: 4 Stars
The benefits to this peeler over a standard peeler are two-fold: superior blade and ergonomic design.
Pros:
Adjustable head angle -- this is great for doing large projects and switching between hands.
Ergonomic design -- in addition to the adjustable head, the soft grip and thumb-crook at the neck make this peeler easy on the hands
Ceramic blade -- I have always been a fan of ceramic blades (despite their purported fragility). This one does not disappoint and I have yet to break it.
Cons:
No potato eye remover
Dialing action of the adjustable head feels as thought it *may* wear down. It hasn't, and I haven't heard anyone else complain of this, I'm just sayin.
Red is the only color available. It doesn't clash with my kitchen, but I could see some people being disappointed in this
