Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Pure Komachi by Kai 6 1/2 Inch Stainless-Steel Vegetable Santoku KnifeCustomer Review: Be careful of the back edge Summary: 4 Stars
The knife works very nicely with vegetables. I haven't tried the other knives in the series, but I already use a set of Wusthof knives for meat and such.
A note of caution: The back edge of the blade next to the handle does NOT have a hand guard, and I cut one of my fingers when I was cutting a large veggie. The design of a lot of the Santoku knives have no back guard, however, some do. I suppose you can look closely at the pictures to see if they have one when you're evaluating which knife to get. A hand guard helps with safety, but it could also interfere when cutting a large veggie.
For ~$20, this is a pretty good knife.
Customer Review: Good...but not Great. Summary: 4 Stars
For the price...I did not expect much of a knife...I bought it after reading all the soaring reviews. After it arrived...the first thing I noticed was the very light weight ...and no balance to speak of. However...the "proof is in the pudding" as they say..off to dice up some tomatoes. It did fair...not great. The blade could be sharper for this weight of knife. I have a ceramic knife that is very good slicing tomatoes...and this pale green wonder comes in a decided third to it. It needs more weight to aid in cutting. Will probably be used often for general hacking. Good enough for the price...but not a great knife.
Customer Review: It looks bizarre, but boy is it sharp... Summary: 4 Stars
This is a great knife for the money. I have an $80 Santoku knife, and yes, it is better, but not 4 times better. In fact, only marginally better. I bought this knife as a back up and use it nearly as much.
The knife looks bizarre, all green from stem to stern. Its appearance made me think it was very cheaply made.
But as I have used it, I have come to appreciate how effective, sharp and easy to clean it is. It is truly a great product, but I can't give it five stars, I will reserve that for the $80 knife. :-)
Customer Review: Have Had My Komachi Veg. Knife for 3 Years Summary: 4 Stars
I have had my knife for 3 years, I have the pink meat knife that I love not quite as much and bought the purple knife today. I would love to purchase myself a $300 knife seriously, but this is by far the best knife I have ever had. It makes chopping and dicing veggies a breeze and I love it. And for $20 replace it, in 3 years it has dulled a bit, but never been sharpened. Fabulous.
Customer Review: lite!......maybe too lite. Summary: 4 Stars
nice knife, pretty green color, extremely sharp, but too lite to chop vege's comfortably.
