Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Pure Komachi by Kai 6 1/2 Inch Stainless-Steel Vegetable Santoku KnifeCustomer Review: Vegetables, Beware!! Summary: 5 Stars
I have had this knife for about a year and a half. I first purchased it because I needed a new vegetable knife, this one was cheap, and hey, it's GREEN!
Ever since I have received it I use it for ALL vegetable chopping/slicing/julienne"ing". My sister came to visit & used it, and then she pestered me until I got her one for Christmas!
So what makes this knife so special?
1. It is lightweight (i.e. easy to handle). I know this would be a drawback for some, but it is so much more comfortable to not have to wield a heavy knife for veggies
2. It is so ergonomically well-formed. It feels like it was made for my hand
3. It is *SHARP*
4. I have never had a knife that cuts vegetables of all types so effortlessly, yes it will work on tomatoes, but the Komachi tomato knife is even better for that.
Finally, it is also cheap and cute!! Both my sister & sister-in-law have received this knife from me as gifts & they love them as much as I do.
One word of caution, use dry hands & dry knife handle, it is slippery when wet. I don't know who would use a wet knife, but hey.
Customer Review: Fantastic knife for the price! Summary: 5 Stars
We've had this knife since 2005 (so 4 years) and it's one of the most used knives in our block of high-end Wusthofs and slightly lower end Forschners. I use it for just about everything--slicing, dicing, chopping--it can even withstand harder veggies like sweet potatoes. We haven't sharpened it once since we got it and it's still our sharpest knife. The handle is super-comfortable too so it's usually the first knife I reach for. For the price, you can't go wrong, and it's outperformed our more expensive knives. The only downsides are that I'm pretty sure you can't sharpen it (though again, we haven't needed to), and also there's a small bit of rust inside the rubber part of the handle where some water must have seeped in while we were washing it (we only hand-wash it and have never dishwashed it). The rust doesn't affect the performance, as it's underneath the gummy part of the handle. The blade is still excellent.
Customer Review: Great price Knife Summary: 5 Stars
I have waited to review this knife to see if the protective colored surface lasts repeated use, dishwashing, and sharpening. I am glad to say that though it shows a little sign of wear it is still fully intact after about 6 months of use. This knife is easily as good as a German knife of twice the price, and is a fine instrument for cutting both soft and hard vegetables. This is the best knife I have found in this price range.
I should add that this knife is quite light weight, it is perfectly strong and solidly built, but the lack of heft might not appeal to everyone.
Still going strong after 4 years. The protective colored surface now has more than a few scratches, but I'm not sure how many of those were from poor sharpening technique and careless dishwasher placement. For a knife you just use and don't fuss over this is still great.
Customer Review: Komachi Knives - wonderful Summary: 5 Stars
This knife and the pink meat knife are the best bang for your buck. I use mine every day and they are still very sharp. I never put them in a drawer only on a magnetic knife holder hooked on the side of the kitchen cabinet. I took my pink meat knife to my work and prepared lunch for a group and ended up ordering 5 of them on line for my friends. I was excited to find them on Amazon as I had purchased mine in CA. last year for the same price. These knives will be my new "wedding gift" of the future - shipped direct - can't get much better and easier.
I have had the pink meat knife for a year and used it for cutting everything - now I have the green vegetable knife and there again it works for everything - just better for chopping veggies - it's inexpensive and a great working kitchen tool!
Customer Review: Cookallthetime Summary: 5 Stars
I'm actually just seeing what others think of a knife my dad bought me because we have a love of good knives and we love to cook. I have fallen in love with this knife because its precision is amazing. I can shave garlic, dice anything, with such accuracy that the work is really gone from the situation. I do sharpen it occassionally as I do with all my knives. I also do not have the complaint about speed that some other posters have -- only because I find that I am not slowed down and I'm not doing things in great bulks. I used to cater and I feel like this knife is a must have for vegetables. I've had it a year, so I can attest to its durability--and I cook almost all meals in a week. Enjoy your purchase if you get it!
