Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Keurig My K-Cup Reusable Coffee FilterCustomer Review: Excellent When Used Properly Summary: 5 Stars
Like many things in life, the Keurig My K-Cup Reusable Filter is great when you know how to use it.
A lot of the negative feedback stems (I think) from people over-twisting it (causing breakage), washing it harshly in the dishwasher (which is too hot likely for the plastic in the filter, causing severe wear and breakage), and not using the filter with properly ground coffee. I hand wash mine, treat it gently, and use medium-ground coffee from a bur grinder (the blade grinders produce erratic grind sizes and are only useful for grinding whole spices, not for good, evenly-ground coffee!). My dad uses a filter too in this way and both of ours have lasted over a year and look brand new.
Don't listen to the negative reviews in here--this thing is great when used properly. I think the coffee actually tastes better using this since the grind is so much fresher. Get one and you'll love it! :-)
Customer Review: Lets me use my own coffee, save K-Cups, and be more green Summary: 5 Stars
I was so happy to get the Keurig machine, as we have a few at work, and I like the temperature the coffee comes out at. Even better, as I was using many K-Cups at home, when I found this reusable filter on Amazon. Some of the reviews had me worried that I was going to have a cup of coffee with many grounds at the bottom of the cup, but when the My K-Cup Reusable Coffee Filter finally arrived I made a cup and was very pleased with the results. I usually grind my coffee pretty coarsely, so there were no problems such as the bottom of the cup being full of coffee grinds. I just didn't understand the directions in the package saying that the K-Cup filter holds 2-3 tablespoons of ground coffee; I could only get 2-3 teaspoons in.
I'm curious to see how long this will last. Some reviewers have said that the filter doesn't last too long, I'll have to put it through its usual paces before I can say.
Customer Review: SWEET Summary: 5 Stars
Works, but not exactly as good as the real cups. It does work though. It's worth having so when you run out of K-Cups you can use it till you get more real ones from Amazon. It's messy and a pain to clean up between cups, but it definitely gets the job done. It seems like the water shoots thru it too fast for it to make the coffee as well as the real thing. I think some of the problem with that however is the coffee I put in it isn't extra fine ground. That would work much better I believe. But hey, since when I started using K-Cups I studied and searched ways to reuse them to save money, looked on the internet and saw the many steps people were going thru to reuse them, then I ran across this on here! Well, it's worth its weight in gold compared to what others are doing on the net! It's no replacement for the real thing, but it's an excellent temp substitute.
Customer Review: Great for Chai and Coffee Summary: 5 Stars
The main thing I would add is that this is a great device to solve the chai problem, mentioned as an issue with the Keurig machine. While I agree that the chai available in the prepackaged K-Cups is not that great, you can get some loose chai (i.e., on Amazon - Numi Tea Ruby Chai, Spiced Rooibos, Loose Herbal Tessan, 16-Ounce Bag), stick some in the basket, and make great chai. There are other varieties - I just have not experimented with these yet.
I use this little gizmo several times a day for coffee and chai and find it to be just the thing for someone who likes great coffee and wants to be environmentally sensitive - I just cannot stand throwing those prepackaged K-Cups in the trash.
My advice is to get two and use one for coffee and one for chai. If you try to use the same one for both, your coffee will taste like chai.
Customer Review: the best addon to the Keurig brewing machine Summary: 5 Stars
I got this bundle with the Keurig Ultimate Gourmet Brewing machine my wife bought for me as an Early Christmas gift. Normally the "My K-Cup" thing is about $14 but it came with my machine as part of a bundle.
If I hadn't of received it I would of bought it as after I've used it twice now I realize it will save me a lot of money.
I love the K-cup idea that my Keurig uses, however I can't find all the flavors I want in the few local stores that sell Keurig Brewing machines. This "My K-Cup" add on lets me Brew any ground coffee or loose Tea that I have on hand. I love Mint Tea and can't find the Bigelow K-Cups in my area, so using the "My K-Cup" has already helped me out a lot.
I only wish however the filter was a little more sturdy. It seems like it could break. But I plan on treating mine with extra care.
