Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Keurig My K-Cup Reusable Coffee Filter

Customer Review: As close as it gets to 5 stars
Summary: 5 Stars

When I purchased my Keurig B-60, I ordered the Keurig My K-Cup Reusable Coffee Filter at the same time. It's not that I'm cheap ... maybe. But I do drink a lot of coffee, and the Keurig can be a little expensive for some of us.

I think if I didn't drink a lot of coffee, I'd still love the ease, flexibility and economy that the Keurig My K-Cup Reusable Coffee Filter offers.

I can't quite give it 5 stars though because of the splashing issue that's been mentioned by some reviewers. One way to combat this is to make sure you have done absolutely no tamping. When you put the coffee grounds in, just put them in. Don't shake the holder to get things level or anything. No hint of tamping at all and I don't think this thing will splash.

The price makes this thing a steal! You'll save a lot of money if you use it.

[EDIT]
3 weeks later, and I like this even more. Since figuring out what caused the splashing and spilling over, this thing works wonderful!

The simplest way to explain it is, "Make sure there are no coffee grounds on the outside. Grounds go on the inside."

1. Wipe any grounds from the lip before you secure the top on.
2. If putting the top on causes coffee grounds to come out of the center hole of the lid, remove the lid, rinse the coffee off, then re-secure.

Customer Review: VERY durable and easy to clean!
Summary: 5 Stars

I own 3 of these, and I've literally made HUNDREDS of cups of coffee with them and my Keurig B40 Elite Gourmet Single-Cup Home-Brewing System, and I have yet to have any broken screens or filter holders. I usually rinse them out after making a cup of coffee and then reuse them throughout the day, only putting them into the dishwasher at the end of the day.

I recommend a fairly fine grind with this device -- not quite as fine as you'd use with espresso, but fairly close.

My favorite use of these is to make iced coffee for friends and relatives who come over. You can crank out a few cups very quickly, pour over ice and a bit of milk, and you've got a VERY refreshing beverage that will please alot of folks.

Plus, using your own ground coffee is much cheaper than the K-Cups. I like to keep an assortment of K-Cups for company and parties, but for everyday use, I use these reusable coffee filters exclusively.

I prefer the taste of coffee made with a French press if one has the time, but you can get an almost identically-tasting cup of coffee in moments with these in this unit, and clean-up is a snap. This is one of my favorite inventions! Highly recommended.

Customer Review: Easiest Thing to Use!
Summary: 5 Stars

When I decided to purchase a Keurig this product caught my eye since I didn't have to be at the mercy of the K-Cup required purchases. Before I bought the Keurig I was perfectly fine with buying good, gourmet coffee when I found a good deal at the local stores -- including Dunkin Donuts! But I hated waiting for the brewing and going through everything to make just one cup when I craved it. Enter this product. It arrived perfectly on time because I ran out of K-Cups the day before! I loaded up the coffee, followed the instructions to remove the other basket, and voila -- my own K-Cup coffee was made in my mug.

The only (small) downside is loading the filter. You'll get the hang of it, but it's not that difficult to handle. Definitely would agree to buy this along with the Keurig if you're buying the product for yourself OR a gift. You'll appreciate it from day one.

Also a word about Amazon shipping... consistently the reason I turn to Amazon EVERY time I need to buy something. They quite often say it'll be here in 14 days, and then it shows up just three days after I complete the purchase. Prices are competitive and the free shipping with the minimum order is the best.

Customer Review: Must Have for Keurig owners
Summary: 5 Stars

This little contraption is a must own, especially if your favorite coffees are not available as k-cups. The biggest problem with most k-cups is that they do not contain enough coffee to make a strong standard size mug-full. I use it with Starbucks coffee. If you fill the filter basket to the top (or nearly the top), you will get MUCH stronger tasting coffee. I use standard auto drip size grinds. If you make sure to screw the cap on it, it will not leak or let grinds into your coffee mug. I honestly do not understand how anyone can have problems with such a simple item. It is simple and quick to clean. If you are using it for more than one person, buy an extra set of filters. Fill it to the top and enjoy.

Keurig coffee makers will never make coffee quite as good as my Krups Mocha Brew but it's simplicity and speed with virtually nothing to clean make it a permanent replacement.

**Update** The local Starbucks recommended a finer grind. They used #4 on their ginder. A VERY fine grind. Wow, this greatly improved the coffee flavor and strength. However it makes it a lot slower to make 1 cup of coffee. If you like Starbucks, try grind #4!

Customer Review: Almost Perfect Design - Why the naysayers?
Summary: 5 Stars

First, I gave this a 5-star rating (I would probably have given it 4 stars) to offset some of the unfair criticism. Yes, you have to pop out a plastic part- Yes, I wish you didn't have to BUT it takes maybe 2-3 seconds. As far as clean-up goes, it's a SNAP! You simply rinse out the lid and filter. Not difficult unless you are sink-challenged. I alternate using this filter and my K-cups. My favorite morning brew is Starbucks breakfast blend which is not yet available in a K-cup! I do wish that you didn't have to pop the plastic piece back in and out everything you were switching filters as it can be very messy if you use a K-cup without that plastic cup piece. Trust me, I know from experience. But that only happened to me ONE TIME. Then, I learned to simply double-check. You also have to make sure to align the tabs correctly but really, that's my only criticism of it. Otherwise, I think it's downright INGENIOUS ! As for the reviewer who states that this "defeats the purpose of a Keurig coffee maker", I say "Grow Up!". It's OKAY to want to be environmentally friendly once in awhile. I would definitely recommend you own this if you own a Keurig coffee maker.
