Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Keurig My K-Cup Reusable Coffee Filter

Customer Review: What the heck has happened to our gene pool???
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw all of the negative reviews and comments and thought long and hard about buying one. What a mistake it was to pay any attention to the negative reviewers. You must take out the black plastic insert that is in the coffee maker (it is the same size as the re-usable k-cup) and then everything works perfectly. Have been using it for nearly 1 month and never had any problems. Even attempted to use it with tea, but I can't seem to get the consistency correct - for the perfect taste. Although while I was trying, I didn't spill water all over the counter or get tea leaves in the unit.

Really, who are these people and what the heck has happened to our gene pool?

I highly recommend this product to use your own coffee blends.

Customer Review: Need an additional item
Summary: 5 Stars

Didn't like the My KCup at first - standard packaged loose tea products are much too coarse, need more time to brew, and produce a weak cup of tea (I would imagine coffee would have the same problem). Using it to produce hot water for teabags didn't work; by the time the water got through the brewer and into the cup, it was not hot enough ( < 190F ) to brew black tea.

Open (and pitch) an unused KCup to see how fine the commercial product is ground. Pick up a coffee or spice grinder and grind your coffee/tea to about that size (these have stainless steel bowls instead of plastic or glass - Amazon has some excellent models by Cuisinart). For tea, I only need about 3/4 teaspoon of the finer grind to make a fairly strong cup.

Customer Review: Great idea!
Summary: 5 Stars

I hesitated to buy a Keurig because I intended to brew my own coffee quite a bit, and many people here have bad things to say about this reusable filter system. But I have two now, along with a B70, and I don't see ANY of the problems with breaking the negative reviews are talking about. The tabs that hold the lid on are robust, the filter fits in fine, and I see no strain on the lip or lid itself when closing the brewer and brewing coffee. Maybe they have been redesigned recently? Now, I can see where people who like strong coffee might want it to engage the grounds a little more when it brews, but it hasn't been a problem for me. The filters work great, are easy to load, and easy to insert in the machine. And easy to clean after use, also.

Customer Review: Great once you get used to it.
Summary: 5 Stars

Well first off, like all K-Cups, this one won't make a large, strong cup of coffee. For those that like it strong, like me, the biggest cup you get is the medium button. Large will make it weak. But that's just how K-Cups are. Now, this works great when you fill it up almost to the top and select medium for a strong cup.

As far as it breaking from what I've read in other reviews, I haven't had such problems. I handle it *Very* carefully, turning very lightly until it just closes. You don't need to be rough with it.

For anyone thinking about taking this to work to use in a work keurig, think again. You have to change the base in the actual machine to fit this so you won't be able to do it on work machines.

Customer Review: works as expected
Summary: 5 Stars

There is really not much to say about this filter. It works as expected. This is my second filter, the first cracked after a year of use (I kinda hit it hard on a side of trashcan to get the old coffee out of it - my morning routine). I bought this second filter maybe 6 months ago and still works exactly the same - no cracks yet, filter did not tear.

The fact I can use this reusable cup vs one time pouches is great. I prefer this cup for four reasons - first I can buy coffee I like, the second I can make it stronger by simply adding more coffee, it is cheaper and this is a bit more environmentally friendly than one time plastic cups.

Would I change anything? no
Would I buy it again? yes
