Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Keurig B60 Special Edition Gourmet Single-Cup Home-Brewing System

Customer Review: Best coffee purchase I've made.
Summary: 5 Stars

This machine is really amazing. This thing is to coffee addicts like a IV drip would be to heroin junkies. The machine makes brewing a cup of coffee so easy that I really hate to think about going back to the days when I didn't have it. I suppose the only problem is that the money I spend on coffee has also increased dramatically. Part of that is because of the increased intake and part of that is because the K-cups are a lot more expensive per cup of coffee than your traditional brewing methods.

The process is very easy, and very versatile. Basically you pick out whichever flavor you want, pop in the K-cup, choose how much you want and come back in a couple minutes. No mess to clean up, disposal of the K-cup is a matter of pulling it out of the holder and tossing it.

I've had it for a few weeks now and have tried a lot of different flavors and varieties of tea and coffee. The best thing about this system is that one minute you might want an extra bold brew and the next minute you want a breakfast blend decaf. You can go from hot chocolate to chai tea in seconds with no issues.

I started on the small serving drinking that after I read a lot of reviews which said that the brews were weak. I haven't found that to be the case and while it's a matter of opinion, I've been drinking the largest serving for every kind of variety from extra bold to the breakfast blend and tea.

I think another advantage to the K-cup is that the coffee is a lot fresher when it makes it to the cup than your traditional ground coffee. I haven't had a cup of coffee from this thing that didn't taste fresh. I guess that's going to depend more on where you buy your coffee and less on this machine but my point is that it's not hard to get a fresh cup of coffee from this machine.

Anyway, if you're looking for an easy and versatile cup of coffee I would definitely recommend the Keurig B60. This thing is excellent.

Customer Review: A perfect cup every time!

We have had the Keurig B60 for over a week now and boy are we glad we bought this little awesome machine. Heats up in less than 3 mins or program it to wake up before you do! Three Brew Size Choices, 5.25 oz (strong brew), 7.25 and 9.25 oz. Programmable LCD Message Center is easy to use, Removable 48oz. Water Reservoir, a snap to refill, Removable Drip Tray, Blue back lit LCD, looks cool at night and your friends will notice your Keurig in a second and the Chrome Accents add a nice touch. One reviewer said this machine is noisy. I disagree, the sound while heating up is not too bad and will not wake anyone from a sleep. The convenience of the one cup brew is so simple and there is no clean up.

Vary your coffee selection and everybody will love having a customized cup of coffee or make hot chocolate or even teas. Buy the coffee filter Keurig sells and use your own coffee to save $ on K-cups. The overall quality of the outside is mainly plastic but seems sturdy. Would be nice to have a bit more metal but I guess that would make it heavier and cost more. Still looks nice on the counter. When your cup is full you might notice the spout spits a bit of water onto your counter top however it is no big deal.

I buy my K-Cups from Timothy's World Coffee from the Canadian web site. One complaint, Timothy's needs to lower their price for a 25 pack, presently $15.95 or Amazon.ca needs to add K-cups to their site. I can not order from the US site. You all should buy your coffee here...best deal on the net.

Overall, easy as pie to use, coffee is fresh each time, no more wasting coffee, get to have a variety of different coffees to choose from every day and no more arguing with my better half as to what blend we should buy. We just pop in our own favorite K-cup and that's it. Oh, we have our old coffee maker just for brewing a larger quantity if needed for friends and family. Enjoy!

Customer Review: Great for the coffee and tea drinking, unless you drink A LOT
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this only yesterday, so I'll only post my first thoughts.

This is an item I often though about buying, but was finally surprised with it as a birthday present. I drink about one cup of coffee a day (normally instant, occasionally from a coffee shop), and drink a lot of hot tea, too. This Keurig seems nice because there's no mess (number one priority for me), and can easily make all kinds of drinks. I also like the ability to change the temperature of the water and the fact that you can use it for hot water much quicker than with a kettle or even the microwave.

That being said, assuming you buy k-cups off Amazon for around $0.40 each, I think it's a reasonable value proprosition, though if you can stomach it, instant coffee is still much, much cheaper.

I've tried 7 different k-cups so far and they aren't quite as strong as the normal coffee I get at a coffee shop (using the middle or large setting), and I'm a little disappointed that you can't get a 12 ounch cup of coffee out of this model (a 12-ounce cup from Starbucks, which is nearly double the size this machine produces, is only $1.61 including tax near me).

Rather than buying any of the tea k-cups, I think I'll just use the machine to disperse hot water and continue using tea bags (I don't see the value in buying $0.40 tea k-cups when dirt-cheap tea bags are just about as easy).

The last thing I'll mention about the B60 is the build quality-- it's quite high, and the added metal parts are much nicer than the model just below this.

PROS: Quick, Clean, Easy-- k-cups are cheaper than coffee shop coffee, and easier and quicker than a regular coffee maker. Provides hot water almost instantly to make other drinks, etc.

CONS: Up-front cost (hurray for birthday presents!), cost of k-cups, coffee not quite as strong as I'd like.

Customer Review: Phenomenal

I have a Cuisinart Grind and Brew and just got this Keurig to replace it (or keep beside it). I could never get the Cuisinart to make a consistent cup of coffee... it either tasted too bitter or too watered down (I quit getting whole beans since the grinder sounds like a 747)... but I always kept the beans in an airtight container. I ended up just using the machine once a month or so since the coffee never tasted right, and ended up wasting a lot of beans.

Then I got this Keurig... its seriously a night and day difference.

Pros:

Cleaning up the cuisnart wasnt hard since i used paper filters, but this thing is just so much more convenient. the waters pre heated and im drinking coffee faster than I can get my shoes on to go out the door. It comes out very hot ( some people complained it wasnt hot enough... it certainly scalded my tongue at first), and the toss out is very simple. Its unfortunate that the KCups arent recyclable tho.

The single serve makes everything taste consistent, which is what I was seriously lacking with the cuisinart. Ive tried a variety of coffees, the new hot cocoa (original was watery, the new Cafe Escapes Milk Chocolate ones are much much better), chai latte (delicious), etc and Im very happy. There is enough of a selection that anyone should be able to find what they want (or use their own beans with the reusable filter).

Its also very very quite and spill free

Cons:
The cups will get a little expensive, but to me its worth it. Then again I was paying $10 for a pound of beans I made 3 cups out of, so this actually isnt too bad :)

Overall it gets a 5. Maybe a 4.5 in reality since I think the water resevoir is too small (bigger on the B70), but I cant give a 4.5, and a 4 is much too low.

Go buy one now.

Customer Review: As addictive as coffee!
Summary: 5 Stars

As pretty hard core Pacific Northwest coffee drinkers, we had some trepidation about whether this machine would make a cup of coffee strong enough for us, and whether the coffee available for this machine would be flavorful or more like diner coffee. The reason I got the B60 was that it makes the smaller 5.25 oz cup, making the flavor more concentrated.

Well, our fears were (somewhat) unfounded. Apparently, the coffee distributors for this machine realized that they were going to have to beef up their coffee strength and choices for the home market, and most of the coffee manufacturers now offer Extra Bold k-cups, which have approx. 20% more coffee in them. They make a GREAT cup of coffee on the 5.25 oz setting. Some of the darker roasts can even use the higher 7.5 oz setting without losing flavor. I think if I was going to make a travel mug full, tho, I would use two k-cups at the 5oz setting so as to avoid over-extraction.

All in all we are very pleased with this machine. It is attractive on the counter, easy to use, and we've found several coffees that we like quite a bit (Newman's Organic, Coffee People Organic, Green Mountain Dark Magic to name a few). I actually find myself looking forward to getting up in the morning because I get to make myself a cup of coffee with this machine! Something about the selection, the ease, the flashing blue buttons...it all adds up to coffee fun, even at 5am.

You can try 5-packs of various coffees at the [...] site until you find some you really like, then you can probably buy them in bulk from Amazon Grocery, which has a good selection of k-cups, bringing the price down to around [...] cents a cup. Beats $[...] at Starbucks. By the way, this would make a great office machine, and everyone could bring in their own individual servings of coffee or tea.
