Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Thermoscan 1-second Read Thermometr , 1-second Read-out

Customer Review: not very reliable
Summary: 1 Stars

The read from this thermometer is always different from the
traditional thermometer. The problem is that the difference
is not consistent, swing from 0.3-1.0 F.

Customer Review: Great for adults, but the probe is too big for little ones..
Summary: 3 Stars

Babies R Us is selling a device that's really great for adults, but the probe is too large to fit the ear of little ones. Our twin boys ears are too small (at 11 months) to get the probe in far enough to take accurate and consistent temperatures. Our peditrician asks specifically for a temporal artery or underarm/rectal temperatue and refuses to recognize ear probe type units because of this problem.

The Braun was MUCH more accurate then a few of the other cheapie units on the market out there, like First Years $20 and $30 models (at Target), but more accurate on adults. The Braun on our boys was somewhat consistent, but not accurate enough so we've switched to the Exergen.

Customer Review: A must have
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm so glad I went out and bought this ear thermometer. It's a must have for anyone with an infant or toddler. It's so easy to use that my 14 month old takes his own temperature. I have never had a problem with any false readings - it's pretty accurate in my opinion.

Customer Review: never the same temp twice
Summary: 1 Stars

first of all, it's still way too large to fit into my 11 month old's ear canal at all. when i try it on me or my husband i will get 3 different temperatures if i use it three times. in my right ear i can get 98 degrees one time, then 99.8, then 96.4. then if i switch to my left ear i get 101.5! it's rediculously inaccurate. i should have heeded warnings about this thermometer, but for some reason thought it would work for us. the idea of rectal seemed so horrible before my son was born, so we bought it anyway. but it's really really not that big a deal, and it's far more accurate, and if my son's health is on the line, then i want the most accurate measurement possible.
don't bother with this waste of money like i did!

Customer Review: Braun thermoscan ear thermometer
Summary: 1 Stars

These thermometers can register a fever when one isn't really present. Mine has registered a fever at home, but (without my having given any medicine to my child) the nurse at the pediatrician's office gets a "normal" reading on the oral thermometer - even less than an hour after I've taken my child's temperature at home! In fact, the nurses at my pediatrician's office said they stopped using the ear thermometers, because they are so unreliable and sometimes register fevers when none are really present. My ear thermometer is going to go into the trash now. We've decided to abandon using it and use an oral thermometer instead (although I've seen mixed reviews about those, too - what's a mother to do???).
