I ordered the Capresso but was a little worried about the reviews which talked about a smell some people experienced when the unit was working. Got it, followed the directions and did notice the smell the first couple of times I used it. But, like other reviewers have noted, the smell goes away after a few uses. We've had it two weeks and use it two or three times a day. No smell, quick heating and great looking. you can lengthen or shorten the cord. It's great! No surprise that Americ'as test kitchen ranked it first.Customer Review: Follow the directions

I've been using my new Capresso for about 2 weeks at least once a day. There are several reviews posted here that say the water has a bad smell and taste. Apparently the folks who posted those reviews may not have read the directions. It says not to leave water in the kettle after you heat it up. Many of the reviews for the other tea kettles say the same thing. If you don't leave the water in the kettles after you pour out your water for the tea or coffee, your water will taste just fine!Customer Review: Beautiful

I have a strong feeling the same person is posting again and again under different names about the "plastic taste/smell", etc. A crank. One in every group.
But anyway, this kettle is perfect. Boils water fast, looks good, easy to fill and pour, and naturally I wipe it out once in awhile with vinegar and soda to keep it shiny. We live in a place where the water has a lot of minerals so it's no big deal to me. I'm a very uncluttered person and it looks nice on my counter.

I've had two of these wonderful kettles and have had no problems with either. The first one I had for two and a half years before it took a trip off of the counter onto a hard floor. I had enjoyed it so much I ordered another one from Amazon that same day. I haven't experienced the bad taste that some reviewers have reported with either of these kettles. I do recommend that you read the tips in the back of the owners manual before using your new kettle.Customer Review: Perfect Kettle

So I really enjoy a good glass of tea and this kettle delivers on hot water quickly. It holds enough water several mugs of water and it's kinda fun to watch the water boil.
My only complaint is that because the pitcher is just glass the water doesn't stay hot for long. The glass of the pitcher does get hot to the touch and dissipates heat pretty quickly. It's quick to reheat so it's not really a problem, just something to remember.
