I've had this for over a year and am 100% satisfied. Like many others on here, I bought this to reduce my exposure to plastic residues and my food. Unlike many others, I've never had any issue with untoward smells even from the get-go. Maybe because we're on well water so no chorine or chlorine byproducts to break anything down?
Kettle heats water quickly and efficiently and I love that you can see how much water is in the kettle, as well as how far along in the boiling process it is. Way faster than the teapot on the stove! We're even buying another one to put in the guest house we like it so much. This is one of those products that just works exactly as advertised and quickly becomes part of your daily routine.

While reading this reviews for this product (and other kettles) I was really worried about the smell issues that so many people have mentioned. But this pot has also received top reviews from other sources so I was torn. I finally decided to give it a try. We have had no problem with what so ever. What is arrived we boiled a pot of water and dumped it as suggested. And used it every day since. The water heats up quickly and the handle stays cool. Some mentioned that it the pot was noisy. I find that I like the bit of noise as I can leave the room but I can tell how far along the process is by the noise it make. And it isn't like it the sound is all that intrusive. I was motivated to get an electric kettle after using one at a friend's home. My traditional stovetop kettle was VERY heavy and oddly awkward to pour from -- pouring into a bain marie required me to turn the kettle almost upside down. Following Cook's Illustrated recommendations I got this and totally love it!
Have had it about a month. No bad smells as described in other reviews. It is quick to boil the water, turns off at the boil, easy for me to manuever from the base to the pour and back. The kettle and lid handles are both quite cool to the touch. The lid stays in the upright position, making the pouring very easy and uncomplicated.
Plus, it is fun to watch the water boil!

It's beautiful and heats water really fast!
I've had other electric kettles before, but liked this one because of the glass . . . no problems with accidentally turning it on without water in it. I use it a lot, and after a few years my first one died (it may be something to do with the connections in the kettle because the base still works). I'm going to try to fix it (I'll use it elsewhere), but wanted it back working one right away, so I ordered another one.
I've never noticed any problems with odors (others have complained about that). I recommended it to a much more fussy friend: fresh out of the box she noticed a slight odor that went away very quickly. She loves it too.

Beautiful to look at and FAST, and I mean fast. Its ranked as top with the PBS America's Test Kitchen folks who said that the
best electric kettle should be easy to fill, pour, and clean. This does all those things. Biggest problem I have had with past water pots is they run dry because I cannot see the water inside and they took so long to get the water really hot. And they were hard to clean. This is easy to clean, and with a glass carafe I know when I wash it that its clean. And it has a modern zen look that makes it attractive to have on the counter all the time. Also have used it as a means to keep moisture in the air in the winter.
