Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Capresso Infinity Conical Burr Grinders

Customer Review: 565 is great the 560, not so great.
Summary: 5 Stars

I have owed the 565 for several months now and I am quite pleased. I have live in Latin America and Central America and know a bit about coffee. I have a drip brewer at the office (med grind), a vacuum brewer at home (extra fine), as well as a Saeco espresso machine (fine grind), and use a French press (coarse grind) for backpacking. Since all of these use different grinds I feel I have a unique perspective.

First off, if you want good coffee you have to start with good beans, not more than a week old after roasting. Keep them in the refrigerator and grind only what you need. I use the vacuum bags with the pump to get out the air.

Second, if you don't grind out all the beans in the hopper you will have some grounds in left the shoot, just like you see in the pictures above. However, if you grind out all the beans it is as clean as can be expected.

Third, there are huge differences in the 560 and the 565. The 560 is plastic and about $90 and the 565 about $140 currently. I mention this because someone has put pictures of the 560 under this review for the 565. What you get for the price difference? The 565 weighs 6.1 pounds and is made out of a zinc die cast metal. The 560 is 3.3 pounds and is plastic. I believe the gears that drive the burrs in the 565 are metal, while the 560 are plastic. Therefore there is less static build up in the 565 than the 560 and the 565 will last much, much, longer.
Over all the 565 is as good as many others for a price much less. I have a friend who now has the kitchen aid grinder and her 560 didn't last more than a couple of years, so save you money. Buy the 565 or the kitchen aid. The 565 gives a consist grind for a verity of coarsenesses. It makes great coffee for a verity of brewers. I recommend it highly.

Customer Review: The best for the price!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have researched and used many types and brands of coffee grinders and now have the best one for the best price. This grinder, of which I have had for 1 year now, is the best value I have found in a very affordable and competent coffee grinder. After reading the reviews on here I agree with 217,275,and 500 and many of the others. I must add that most of the (very few) negative issues are easily rectified by taking a little time to be careful and using some logic and thought.
1) Being patient when unpacking will prevent any damage...Period
2) The basket requires an extra push from time to time in order to prevent blow-by of ground coffee.
3) The proper grind setting is actually very subjective (as it should be). Individual taste is not something that can be mechanically regimented. Try different grinds and timer settings. I have an older Braun Flavor select automatic with a gold cone filter. I find my favorite blend of time and grind is the coarser medium setting at 9 on the timer with 11 cups of water in the maker. This of course is subject to change for the different blends of coffee we enjoy. By the way, we live in the Pacific Northwest where coffee snobbery is a way of life.
4) As far as cleaning goes? As with any kitchen appliance, You must keep it as clean as possible. That said, If you use it once everyday or more you really don't need to worry about leaving a few beans in the hopper for several hours. Just don't grind too much coffee and leave it sit for hours. Once a week I take the grinding unit apart and brush and wipe it clean. That's pretty much all that is necessary. General wiping of parts to me is not that tough.

I highly recommend the Capresso Infinity as the grinder you will enjoy for years to come.

Customer Review: Great Product
Summary: 5 Stars

I have always used a blade grinder for coffee beans. Recently I decided to try a burr grinder so I started doing research on different burr grinders. Eventually I focused on this Capresso Infinity burr grinder. After reading all sorts of reviews and evaluations I expected a couple of issues, but decided to give it a try. The issues I expected, based on reviews , were noise when grinding and static causing the ground coffee to get all over my counter. After one month of use I think I can safely state that neither issue is significant . First as to the noise, it is no worse than a blade grinder, just a different type of noise. Where the blade grinder tends to have a higher pitched whine, the burr grinder has a lower pitched growl. But it is not overly noisy. Too, the grinding takes less than 60 seconds so it is not like you are listening to it all day. Second ,the static issue. One reviewer suggested that if static was an issue simply wipe out the container that holds the ground coffee once a week with an anti static clothes dryer sheet. I have done that one time a week for the month that I have owned the Infinity and static is a total non issue. I have used a dryer tissue called"Full Circle" because it has no dyes or bleach and is non-toxic. Frankly I doubt static would be an issue even if I did not use the dryer sheet.
Finally ,I can't even begin to describe the difference in coffee taste when it is ground fresh in the morning and brewed right then and there. It has opened a whole new world of coffee taste for us.
I would enthusiastically recommend this product and advise people not to worry abut excess noise or static causing the ground coffee to fly all over your counter. They are non issues.

Customer Review: Burr Grinder Installed Upside Down and is Stuck
Summary: 5 Stars

My fiancee (yes I am blaming her) recently placed the Burr grinder part in upside down and it became stuck. I tried brut force and prying it with a screwdriver but I could not dislodge it. We figured that all was lost and basically we were going to need to buy a new one, but after calling customer service they explained it was quite common and gave me "the fix".

When I was trying to find a solution online for this I saw only one other review and it spent most of the time praising customer service and didn't give much detail on how to get this part unstuck. So I will explain in detail what to do and you to will be a hero (it's very simple). Oh yah by the way before I forget, the customer service department is AWESOME and I love our grinder!

Place the grinder upright with the dial facing you with the plastic grinder cone removed. You should be seeing a depression on the top which houses the upside down grinder. There is a slit at the bottom of the depression that if it were a clock would be running approximately from 9 o'clock to 6 o'clock. Take a butter knife and insert it in the slit about 1/2 and inch and apply pressure to the right like you are turning a dial. In other words the base of the impression is movable and you want to move the slit from its 9 o'clock/6 o'clock position to 6 o'clock and 3 o'clock. Once you do this it should come right out.

I hope this helps and if you are looking for extra brownie points you could have a cup of fresh brewed coffee sitting next to the recently fixed grinder.

Customer Review: Great performance; good looks; nice price
Summary: 5 Stars

I never considered myself a coffee purist. But when my (mediocre) Cuisinart Burr Grinder died, and I went back to using my old blade-grinder, my morning cappuccino tasted pretty awful. I ordered the Capresso Infinity after reading many reviews, and am delighted with my purchase. Bear in mind, I was not in the market for spending hundreds of dollars; undoubtedly there are better machines at much higher price points. In coffee as in life, you get what you pay for.

The Capresso Infinity is much quieter than the Cuisinart, and seems to run more smoothly. I grind espresso beans which tend to be oily, but so far I have had no trouble with the machine clogging up. The calibrations for fine-through-course are clear, so it's easy enough to remember which setting to use for which type of coffee. (I use a slightly courser setting for my husband's pot of drip coffee each day.) So far, there hasn't been any mess with built-up static electricity (which was a real problem with the Cuisinart,) though that could change as the weather gets colder. Not being able to turn the timer back to zero is a minor inconvenience. When you're grinding the same amount of beans each time, you know where to set the dial.

The machine feels solid and is sleek and attractive. I bought the black model -- probably would have gone for the brushed steel if I was feeling more flush.
All in all, I'm very satisfied...and my cappuccino tastes great!
