Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Capresso H2O Plus Glass Water KettlesCustomer Review: Pretty but horrible quality. Summary: 2 StarsI got this teapot because i thought it looked amazing and it does when it boils but it is so cheaply made. If you drink tea a lot like me (i boil it at least twice a day this product is not for you). We had to return the first one we got after a week because it started coming apart at the seems. The second one is about 2-3 month and has cracks already. When it doesn't have too much water in it and you turn it on it will keep on boiling that water over and over and over again till you manually turn it off. It wont shut down on its own. I'm very disappointed by the product and sad that I cant return it. It is really not worth the money.
Customer Review: Nice concept with a smell of plastic Summary: 2 StarsWhat a nice idea - a glass kettle, the one you can see through boiling. Nice design as well. Main problem is that the heating element is surrounded by a plastic ring, which produce quite a noticeable smell of plastic when boiling water. We used it for a weak hoping that the smell will go away, but it didn't. Many kettles has plastic parts, but this seems to be the only one where plastic directly contacts heating element, not just water. And of course, bad stuff goes from plastic to your water along with the smell, but this is only for those who are concerned about health. My point is that this smell just ruins taste of all kinds of tea.
Also, two minor things
- it takes about 2 times longer to boil that other comparable kettles (still fast, actually)
- nice an stylish blue light, which indicates that the kettle is on is not as visible as in other models.
Customer Review: Looks great to leave on counter Summary: 5 StarsLove the look as I leave it on the counter.
Works quickly and perfectly for 5 mos. now.
Customer Review: Even Better than I'd hoped! Summary: 4 StarsI received this kettle as a birthday gift about 10 weeks ago. It has been used about three to five times a day (at least) since. (It was purchased from another retailer, but it is this exact model.)
I love it, its beautiful, and takes up a minimal footprint. (Smaller than our carafe coffee maker) Everyone who comes into the kitchen loves it, visually speaking.
Some things I was concerned about given the many reviews I read after receiving it:
1. Worry: The smell of the base/washer/unit. FACT: There was no smell to the unit I received.
2. Worry: The heating element discolors quickly. FACT: Yes, there is some mineral depositing issues with the heating element. However, that is the physics of heating water. A simple cleaning once a week with some vinegar and a soft old toothbrush has kept my kettle in tip top shape. Everything you use daily will need maintenance! Plus, as much as we use it, as soon as it's water level is below the element's dome, we refill it, it's never empty!
3. Worry: Discoloration or disintegration of handle and top. FACT: So far, everything seems perfect. It does seem that the handle might want to be slightly more substantial in a newer design, but I have no worries about this unit continuing to hold up.
All in all, we love it, its faster than the microwave and ultimately more eco-friendly, I use it not only for tea, but to get the boil started for canning, (heat the pan with a little water, and transfer boiling water from kettle to hot pot, much faster than waiting for the stove top!)making pasta,(same deal: boil and transfer water to pot, then add pasta) making instant oatmeal and cocoa, it's been fabulous.
Even cleaning, if I need boiling water for anything, this is my go-to appliance.
If with the amount that I use it, it only lasts a year, it'll still have been worth it simply for the amount of the energy I'm saving by using this appliance.
I would buy this appliance again, gift it, and recommend it whole heartedly. Nothing is fool proof, but this is pretty close!
Customer Review: Okay, but then it died Summary: 2 StarsWe bought this kettle for it's looks (I didn't like it but my husband loved it, so I said okay) and the fact that you could see the water in the kettle. I was not really happy with it at first but it grew on me and I liked it very well until the painted-on silver handle began to peel and show a cheap plastic material underneath. It was still a workhorse for the kitchen so we kept it of course. After only about a year's normal use the thing just died. It was a disappointment overall and cost way more than the real value of the product. I would not recommend this kettle to anyone. I give it 2 stars for at least working for a year.
