Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Capresso 303.01 4-Cup Espresso and Cappuccino MachineCustomer Review: I'm no barista, but I can make a helluva latte with this! Summary: 5 Stars
First of all, I have never written a review for a product on Amazon. Never felt the need until now...
I was a responsible consumer & researched this espresso machine before I bought it. I admit, I was leery because there are several negative reviews, but decided to take the gamble and buy it anyway. My conclusion: the negative reviewers are lazy and didn't READ THE INSTRUCTIONS.
I love our new Capresso - this is the little latte-maker that could! In the week of vacation from Christmas to New Years it had already paid for itself! (If you factor in the going rate of a Venti Latte from FiveBucks.) The key is READ THE INSTRUCTIONS! And practice. As I said in my title, I'm not a Barista. I have never in my life actually made an espresso, cappuccino or latte. However, I've sipped more than my fair share, so I had a pretty clear idea of how to construct a good cup of joe. I READ THE INSTRUCTIONS and made some great lattes. It was awkward at first, but eventually I got the hang of it. Now I feel like a pro and, with supervision, my 9 year old kid can make them.
I can't say enough wonderful things about this Capresso. It's got a great price tag, it's easy to use (once you READ THE INSTRUCTIONS and get the hang of it), it's easy to clean, it's small & takes up very little space.
The only down side to this machine: you get what you pay for. Which in this case, I feel for $50, you actually are on the winning end of cost vs. benefits. But, specifically, the limitations are: It is time consuming to make your drinks - but you didn't pay for an industrial machine, so you shouldn't expect industrial speed. It's not meant for dinner party use (unless you want to serve 2 cups at a time to your guests) - again, you didn't pay for an industrial machine, so you shouldn't expect industrial results.
A few tips I've learned along the way: Save your money on buying "special" steaming cups. I have a 1 cup Pyrex glass measuring cup that I use. It's the perfect size & does the job just fine. Also, there's no need to buy a tamper. First of all, the directions specify you don't need to tamp anyway, but if you feel you must, there's a tamper included on the other side of the coffee scooper.
Have fun, be patient and happy coffee drinking! Hope this helped!
