Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of John Boos Mystery Oil Butcher Block Oil

Customer Review: Excellent
Summary: 5 Stars

This oil is great...there's no need to buy more expensive stuff--they all do the same job--

Customer Review: Boos is not just mineral oil
Summary: 4 Stars

It is my information that Boos oil is not just mineral oil; that there is bees wax "dissolved" in food grade mineral oil (probably why its thicker), along with "orange oil" which gives Boos oil a mild fragrance. I reason that the mineral oil acts as a vehicle to move the bees wax into the wood. All of this provides better protection than just "drug store" mineral oil. I understand that bees wax contains "propolis", which would suggest to me that bees wax has some anti-bacterial properties. Maybe some high powered science type people can comment on this probability.

Customer Review: Good product
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this oil to use on a new butcher block kitchen cart. I have coated it twice, so far. It had nothing on it when I bought it, so it is absorbing the oil pretty quickly. I also used it on an old wooden bowl and some salad utensils that I have had for years, and they look great. (I oiled them a month or so ago).

I am not really fond of the smell of the oil, but that dissipates very quickly. No lingering odor.

Seems to be a good product that lives up to my expectations.

Customer Review: John Boss Block Oil
Summary: 4 Stars

Does what it's suppose to do. Can't ask for any thing else. I have several blocks and use them often. I keep them fresh and prevent the hardwood from drying out by applying John Boos Oil to them. I recommend this product.

Customer Review: How can something flammable/explosive be OK for food?!
Summary: 4 Stars

I liek the oil, and use it on my Oak boards. But how many flammable/explosive foods can you think of?!

Love the oil, but it does make you think...
