Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of John Boos Mystery Oil Butcher Block OilCustomer Review: good stuff Summary: 5 Stars
I used straight mineral oil prior to my buying this product. The John Boos stuff absorbs well (better than straight mineral oil for me) into my maple wood piece. It has a light pleasant smell, and it just feels good. (I know, that's pretty subjective, but trust me, it really seems like great stuff.) The directions for application are simple, and they tell you to put a new coat on when it appears your wood is getting dry.
Customer Review: No Mystery - a "Must-Have" Summary: 5 Stars
I got this oil along with a Boos wooden cutting board. It's a "must-have" to regularly treat the board to prevent it from drying out. It's also a GREAT overall wood oil to use for butcher block and other wood surfaces. A "mysterious" combination of food-grade oils that won't go rancid on you, John Boos delivers another quality product.
Highly recommended.
Customer Review: Great Product Summary: 5 Stars
This oil makes my butcher block look fabulous - it really brings out a beautiful color in the wood and will no doubt extend the life of one of my favorite kitchen pieces. Easy to use and smells really nice too - a faint lemony scent, nothing overpowering. Arrived very quickly and it seems that one bottle will last for quite some time with regular use.
Customer Review: cutting board care Summary: 5 Stars
When I purchased a very expensive cutting board it came with a bottle of oil. I did not like the way the board felt after applying the oil. Did some research and found this oil made by the board manufacturer. The difference is day and night. No greasy feel, absorbs quickly leaves the board looking new.
Customer Review: Mystery oil really is better! Summary: 5 Stars
Logic tells me that mineral oil is mineral oil and the baby laxative should work to condition butcher block countertops but......the Mystery oil penetrates the wood in a MYSTERIOUS way!! I was so impressed, I used the Mystery oil to rehabilitate some very old and dried out bar stools.
