Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of 6640-022 Table Top Blender, Oster 6640, 10 spd White

Customer Review: Great price. Gets the job done
Summary: 4 Stars

This blender is very useful and certainly gets the job done. The price was great, too! There really does not seem to be too many differences between all the different speeds, so do not let the whole "10-speed" perk be the deciding factor in your purchase of this item.

Customer Review: Makes one heck of a smoothie.
Summary: 4 Stars

This is an excellent blender for home use. I haven't tried using it to crush ice cubes, but it does handle frozen fruits quite well. I would recommend it as the best choice for its price range.

Customer Review: NOTE: This blender has a PLASTIC JAR
Summary: 4 Stars

Just an FYI (in case you forget to read the fine print), this blender has a plastic rather than a glass jar.

Customer Review: Decent
Summary: 3 Stars

I've had this blender for 10 years and it's still working. It's been used very lightly and infrequently. Sometimes it leaks, even if I have the bottom screwed on really tight and the seal is in the correct position. I don't like the fact that it never really locks into place on the base, seems kind of like there is no right way to get it on there. I've mainly used it for smoothies, and it does a decent job on ice if you leave the smoothie in there for a long time. Otherwise you get lots of little ice chunks that you have to chew with your teeth in your smoothie. The other day I tried to use it for applesauce and I was less than impressed. The jar was full, but it wasn't really "blending", i.e. pulling the stuff from the top to the bottom and so forth. I ended up with tons of cinnamon on the top and none on the bottom. I used it once for salsa. It did a decent job of chopping everything up really fine. I hate that the jar is plastic, but it hasn't cracked on me yet and it's even been dropped from the top shelf of the cupboard several times, so I guess it's durable. The seal is still in great shape. The motor seems to be holding up under light use.

Next time I'll buy a blender with a glass jar, that screws onto the base in a definite way. This one is worth the $30 I paid for it 10 years ago. I don't know how it would hold up to daily use, as I use it about once a month.

Customer Review: An OK Blender for the Price
Summary: 3 Stars

This blender does crush ice and makes my smoothies with ease (the recipe's in my book, Feeding the Kids!). I have even ground coffee with the blender a few times. Its motor is holding up well after around 2 years of heavy usage and washings in the dishwasher.

The other review mentioned leaking. The blender only leaks when you put the rubber gasket on below the blade attachment. It's an easy mistake to make--and an easy mistake to correct. There is a note engraved on the blade attachment showing just where to put the gasket, but it's not very noticeable unless you look for it.

My main complaint is that the lid of the blender is very poorly made and warped in the dishwasher. Also, the middle part of the lid fell into the blender and was pureed into my soup while I was blending it. That's a major design flaw. The lid is the main reason I give this product 3 stars.

Update: It finally died after about 4 years of fairly heavy usage. The motor still works, but the stem that spins snapped off. I did have to replace the rubber gasket, blades, lid and glass jar (my fault, I dropped it) over the years--but still, an OK blender for the price.
