Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Jack Lalanne's JLSS Power Juicer Deluxe Stainless-Steel Electric JuicerCustomer Review: squeeze the juice! Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this juicer from [...]. I got te deluxe version but it didn't have ALL the extras given when purchased from the juicer site or other sites. It only came with the following:
1 pusher
1 blade
1 blade crescent screwdriver
1 filter brush
1 cd
1 power juicer deluxe operating manual
1 "Secrets of Power Juicing" recipe book
1 "Recipes for healthy living" book
The price I purchased this for was under [...] so I don't mind that I didn't get whatever "extras" other sites offered.
I had ended up burning out the motor on the juicer after juicing 1 large carrot. I thought it was overheating and waited 20 minutes to let the unit cool down and also emptied out the pulp from the carrot.
The unit turned on but it didn't really sound as if the blade was turning. So I pressed down harder and this caused the unit to actually start smoking.
I immediately unplugged it. Allowed it to cool down some more and then placed it back in the box to return it to Costco. I was extremely disappointed that it had burnt out so quickly especially since I only got a 1/4 of fresh carrot juice. But I figured it was my fault for NOT doing the following:
1. letting the blade run for 10 seconds prior to using the juicer
2. putting light pressure when juicing (I was putting EXTREME pressure instead - thinking it would make it juice faster).
[...] is pretty good about their stuff. They guarantee satisfcation so I'm not too worried about the warranty on the product.
Also, I noticed that the juicer works BEST when only a few items are added at a time in the chute. Like 2 large cut pieces of carrots at a time, 3 pieces of celery at a time, etc.
This is my first real juicer and I'm pretty satisfied with it... Too bad it doesn't do bananas though.
Customer Review: Great juice Summary: 4 Stars
Those of us old enough to remember Jack LaLanne doing jumping jacks as we watched on black and white television sets will recall that the early fitness guru was really into fresh juices. My original intent was to get one of those rotating machines where you press an orange onto it and out comes a glass of juice. It turns out these juicers are not as easy to find as they used to be. So I decided to upgrade a bit and get this machine.
If you are making orange or other citrus juice you need to remove the peel first. This is because this baby will liquify anything. Pulverized orange peel is not that tasty. So at the start, it is messier and takes more work than using a rotating juice extraction device. But that is the only real advantage.
LaLanne's makes a great cup of orange juice. And if that is all the use it gets, you will not be disappointed. However shortly after I got it, I was asked by my wife to get some apple juice for some apple sauce she was making. While picking up my keys on the kitchen counter, I spied Jack's machine, and being basically lazy, I took two apples and ran them through the juicers. The result was delicious. I had no idea an apple had so much juice.
Now there will be those who will want to juice carrots and celery and other healthy items. I am sure this product will work just fine. But as for me, I am content drinking fruit juices. If I get really brave some day, I might try a tomato.
Customer Review: Great machine - love it. Summary: 4 Stars
I'm quite suprised to see this machine didn't get better reviews. I admit I have nothing to compare it to since I've never owned another juicer besides this one, but this does the job and does it well. I am single so I just make one glass of juice every morning, using some combination of the following: apples, carrots, kale, parsley, oranges, spinach, cucumbers, ginger, chard, pears, grapefruit and celery. I am able to put a whole [small] apple in and it pulvarizes it with no problems. If you're jucing leafy greens, make sure to roll them up tightly and put enough in the shute [at least a big handful] otherwise it just kind of floats around in there and hoovers above the blade. I can't speak for those who are making large family-sized batches of juice, and whatever problems they may run into doing that, but again - works fantastic for one person.
The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of five is that it is a pain in the behind to clean simply because there so many parts to it. You have to clean the pulp-catcher, the lid, the mesh strainer, the piece that pushes the produce down, the cylinder around the base, and the base itself [if any juice/pulp got on it]. That's a lot of work for 1 cup of juice! They should design it for easier clean up. You also can't make a big batch and just stick it in the fridge for a few days. (Since fresh juice isn't pasteurized and doesn't contain perservatives, it will go rancid quickly).
Customer Review: BEST BUY FOR YOUR MONEY Summary: 4 Stars
I have owned this juicer for over a year and really love it. I use it mainly for my own version of "V-8" juice (carrots, celery, spinach, lemon) to easily and quickly increase the number of vegetables I eat during the day. This type of veggie juice also gives good immune system support - I rarely get sick when everyone around me is getting the flu or a cold.
The juicer itself is fairly quiet and the large intake tube easily holds whole carrots, celery, bunches of spinach or a whole (peeled) lemon. Yes, there is some prep time to making a juice (cutting ends of carrots, peeling the lemon) but the results are worth it. Your health is worth it! It does take a few minutes to clean the juicer but I found a vegetable scrub brush works great for cleaning the blade and screen. Also, use small bags to line the pulp receptacle then pull out and dispose or use for garden compost. Easy.
I don't know if this is the best juicer on the market but, without having to spend a fortune, it certainly more than serves its purpose .... I use it several times a week and haven't had any particular issues. Definitely a great boost to your health.
Customer Review: Great way to jump into the juicing scene Summary: 4 Stars
Well 1st off, bought the machine from COSTCO, their refund policy is a good enough reason but the price is significantly better.
The juicer works great, don't have much experience in juicing machines and the prices on the other brands prices kept me from buying these brands. Everyone seems to love the recipes that came with the machine, and am surprised about the use of beets in a drink.
If you are a novice like myself and want to see what the rave is all about, then make the plunge with this machine, I have no complaints whatsoever. We purchased a book, "Power Juices" by Penny Hunking & Fiona Hunter (ISBN 1585747432) that help if you workout with explanations on why the particular juice recipe is helpful. We found the book at Half-Price.
One last bit, Jack, may you rest in peace!!
