Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Jack Lalanne's JLSS Power Juicer Deluxe Stainless-Steel Electric JuicerCustomer Review: Love the Jack LaLane Power Juicer Deluxe Summary: 5 Stars
I have had my Jack LaLane Power Juicer for over a month and have used it every day. Years ago I had a Mr. Juiceman which was not nearly as quiet or easy to clean which made me give up juicing for many years. I'm so happy to be back juicing and the JLL Power Juicer Deluxe works very well. It is very quiet and easy to clean (takes me about 5 mins to wash everything and reassemble it). Because I use it every day, I wash it by hand and have never put it in the dishwasher - I don't see a need to since it's so easy to clean by hand.
One of my favorite breakfast juices consists of collard greens or spinach, 1 apple, 2 carrots, 1 cup blueberries & cranberries, 1 lg chunk pineapple, handful of strawberries and 2 tangerines. It juices all of these just fine without anything clogging or jamming (this makes two eight-ounce cups of juice). The chute is plenty wide and can take a whole apple (the size of a fuji) but I always core my apples because I've read that the seeds contain trace amounts of cynanide. I can put two whole carrots in at the same time or a whole cucumber and it easily juices them. I have juiced small bunches of seedless grapes (stems and all) with no problem.
Some general tips:
* Put a small plastic grocery bag into the pulp catcher which makes cleanup that much easier.
* I use a plastic 2-cup measuring cup to catch the juice and then pour it into a glass.
* Be sure to roll leaf produce (like spinach or collard greens) into a ball before putting into the shoot and follow with a high juice fruit or vegetable like apple or cucumber.
* I recommend using the small seedless tangerines instead of oranges because the tangerines are much easier to peel (never juice an orange or tangerine with their peel as it is very bitter).
* The night before, prepare everything you want to juice in the morning and just keep it covered in the fridge - it makes the morning routine that much faster.
* I keep my juicer right by the side of the sink to make the clean-up process easy & fast. It really does only take me 5 mins to dissassemble, clean, dry, and reassemble. And because it is the stainless steel & black model it looks very nice on the counter when it's not being used.
* Whatever juicer you buy, definitely stay away from white - it becomes permanently stained from items like carrots and beets.
I highly recommend the Jack LaLane Power Juicer Deluxe (stainless steel & black).
Customer Review: Best Machine out there for value and performance Summary: 5 Stars
I have owned just about every juicer out there ( Centrifuge and Masticating). I started juicing over 15 years ago starting with the Juiceman. This unit is optimal and a good value. As with all juicers of this type you do not want to juice SOFT fruit. Fresh and Firm is where it is at. This will produce the best yield for juice. Never mix fruit and vegetable juices. There are only a few pieces to clean which will help you to keep juicing longer without giving it up. Vegetable juices are by far the most beneficial of juices. There are health benefits and cautions to note. When juicing fresh garlic be aware that it does lower Blood Pressure. I used good sized amounts mixed with California Carrot. I recorded a 20 point drop in bp INSTANTLY. If you lake BP meds you need to be careful not to run into trouble. Most Doctors are ignorant about juicing benefits. The easy way to tell if a machine is good is by the size of the feed tube. A large one indicates a good motor to chew up the produce. A small one will struggle to work well. Also when you press down while processing the fruit or veggies, If the motor slows on you noticably then you have a dog of a juicer ( no slight to pooches out there). Grasses are best left to masticating juicers for efficient results as are soft fruits. ONLY use CALIFORNIA CARROTS WHEN JUICING. The best is from Bakersfield and or Grimmway farms. The Carrots are as sweet as fruit. Florida is a fair second and no other should be used as they can get real bitter. I use a large Pyrex measuring cup to collect my juice direct from the machine. ALWAYS fit the pieces of the machine together snugly and double check it before you turn it on. If you do not you may chew off some of the top of the unit and effectively ruin your machine by increasing the gap on the bottom of the assembly near the bladed bowl. This last part was extremely important do not forget it. Buy this unit and follow directions. I know you will be a happy camper.
Customer Review: Great juicer for great price Summary: 5 Stars
Personally, I find this to be a great juicer. I bought mine at Costco so it was less expensive ($[...]) and I consider it a great deal. I have two children (4 & 6) and a husband with MS, none of which eat enough fruits and vegetables.
My kids are clamoring for me to juice every day! Often I make juice 2x a day! While I am using pears, apples, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, watermelon, oranges, peaches, pineapple, etc. in it - I also throw in some carrots, celery and other veggies (tomato) and my kids don't even know it - but sit and drink 2-3 glasses of the juice and LOVE it. It is hot here during the summer and we bought popsicle molds at Target and pour fresh juice into the molds and freeze it for wonderful juice popsicles. This beats paying big $$$ for fresh fruit popsicles in the store that have an ingredient list of things I cannot pronounce.
Sure the product might have some limitations - you do have to take out the larger pits (from peaches and cherries, etc.) but I can put a bunch of grapes in it and an entire apple without a problem. I find this machine to function 95% as the infomercial states it will - the only thing I find myself doing is I do have to cut up my fruit more than they show on that infomercial - they must have really small apples!! =) But it does clean up wonderfully - I just handwash it in the sink and let it air dry because we don't run the dishwasher every day and we are using our juicer every day!!
We love it!
Customer Review: Essential For Crohn's Summary: 5 Stars
I haven't read in here the true purpose of pulp extracting juicers which is to get vegetable /fruit nutrition to people with compromised GI tracts. Everyone else using these products, no offense intended but you are just playing with food. You can do better by eating actual salads that contain the fibrous plant fiber your 'normal' intestines need and can handle. My wife has Crohn's disease and the inner lining of her large intestine is ulcerated. She can not handle 'normal' raw vegetables delivered in salads so she has to use this product and supplement her fiber using a non-grit product such as benefiber. Having said that, I've had no problems whatsoever with this product. It is well designed, well built and perfect for the task at hand. I only make up small amounts of juice at a time because this product is just for her/not for me. I clean the thing out manually after each use which takes a good deal of water and paper towels so to me that is the only thing wrong with it, the additional labor and resources required to keep it clean. I suspect this product will last for many years while helping to prolong the life of my wife's GI tract and helping to prevent potential life threatening GI bleeds. She's also on permanent blood anti-coagulation so that last aspect is especially apt. This is a quality 5 star product. There are millions of people with compromised GI tracts. You shouldn't be juicing pits or anything too hard or fibrous. It states it in the manual and it's just good common sense.
Customer Review: Great Juicer if you follow the operating manual. Summary: 5 Stars
I recieved this juicer for my birthday and after reading reviews I was a little worried.I was a little scared using it the first time. But after using it a couple of times I am completely happy. It's my first juicer and I never liked to eat fruit. But now I buy all these different fruits and try new juices. I can even convince my children to drink them. As long as you follow everything that is in the operating manual booklet there shouldn't be any problems. People wrote in the review that " Bananas gets stuck in machine. Well in the book it says "you can not juice Bananas". Cleaning this machine is easy too. You can put a plastic bag in plastic pulp collector that will make cleaning easier. I would recommend this Juicer. I read people complaint about carrots being stuck in Juicer. Well I just made some Carrot Orange Juice this morning and had no problems. I just added carrots with Orange together.
I'm happy with this Juicer. I wish I would have bought it long time ago.
