Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Jack LaLanne JLPJB Power Juicer Juicing Machine

Customer Review: Powerful, Quiet, & Long Lasting!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was online looking for a mini juicer that I could leave on my countertop all the time, and saw that Amazon sold this larger one. Since I've owned it for several years, I decided to write a review.
I purchased this one about 8 years ago, as my third juicer. My first juicer would bog down, clog up, and stop running after about 8 oz of carrot juice. My second one wasn't much better, I had to really push to get the carrots thru, although cucumbers, etc, went thru fine. Both of my first two juicers were very loud, not a good feature for me. So then, I saw the infomercial for the LaLanne juicer and the way they fed the vegees thru so quickly sold me. I purchased it and threw my other two juicers away.
For this juicer, I rarely have to chop anything. There is no such thing as a carrot too big for this juicer. Cucumbers and small apples go thru whole as well. I have to cut larger apples in half, but that's still a breeze compared to my old juicers. Celery strings are no problem for this baby. And it's powerful enough that I hardly have to push the fruits/vegees down at all, no matter what I'm juicing. And it's quiet! When I saw the infomercial, I wondered if they did some kind of trick with the microphone to make it seem like the juicer was quiet, but when I used it the first time and was still able to talk to my husband while juicing, I was thrilled. It does of course make some noise, but it's not bad at all. This juicer is also easy to clean; I basically just spray everything good with my sink sprayer and the pulp comes right off. I do use a small brush on the mesh basket, but that goes quick too.
The only thing I don't care for, is that once the pieces to this juicer are washed, I like to let them dry in my dish drainer. It's a real trick to get them all to fit without falling off the drainer. So, instead of juicing every day (which would be healthier), I end up juicing big batches at a time and keeping a few days worth in the fridge, and sometimes freezing what's left over. I just don't care for that bulk in my drainer.
All in all, if you want a juicer that works quickly, extracts a lot of juice, is fairly quiet, can take fairly large vegetables, cleans up easily, and you don't mind the bulkiness of it, then you'll love this one!
Personally, I'd love to find a small countertop juicer with small parts that is easy to clean, yet powerful enough to do a good job, for everyday use. It would be a great counterpart to my LaLanne juicer, that I'd prefer to use just for mass juicing!

Customer Review: Great for Beginners and Great for the Price
Summary: 5 Stars

This juicer is not perfect. But it works very well. I've had mine for 4 years now. I just completed a 30 day juice fast. And it worked very well for the entire 30 days. That's 30 days of juicing every single meal that I consumed. It has it's personality. But all of the issues are manageable.

I highly recommend this for the beginning juicer. All too often people think they are going to juice all the time. But when it comes down to it. Many will juice for a month and then it becomes another kitchen gadget collecting dust. So I'd recommend easing your way in with this juicer.

This thing is a work horse. I'm happy with the juice extraction. I love the taste and quality of the juice. Here are my recommendations for it's flaws:

Don't put it in the dishwasher. I put it in there and it stained the inside a brownish color. It's clean, just not white on the inside anymore. No biggie. Just not great.

Turn the juicer away from you when you juice. Juice splatters when it comes out. So point it to the backsplash or something that is easy to wipe. I also hold the pitcher up a bit when it comes shooting out so I catch more of the juice. It's not much juice that comes flying out. But enough to splatter. So I try to catch it.

If you're switching juices from say veggie to a sweet fruit, I pour a little water down the chute to wash it out a bit because not all the juice comes out (like 1/2 ounce).

It takes about 7-10 minutes to clean. It's easy to clean. I never use soap since it's only fruits and veggies. The tray inside is the one piece that I don't like cleaning. I imagine it is tough to clean on any juicer. It only takes a couple minutes. Just use the brush on the outside first over running water, then scrape the inside over running water.

Those are about the only flaws that I see. I'm surprised that this thing doesn't have a higher rating. I love my machine. I may upgrade someday to a breville since I'm a pretty serious user nowadays. But I'm happy.

And of course, the the fresh juice is amazing! Be sure to risk it and try beets, fennel (if you like licorice, and sweet potatoes. They surprised me.

Customer Review: Painless Way to Get Fruits and Veggies!
Summary: 5 Stars

I love my Jack LaLanne Power Juicer. I am a 32 year old working professional with a lot of stress in my life and the juicer helps me stay healthy and ensures I get all of my servings of fruits and vegetables daily. I find that the process of preparing the produce, juicing, and clean up requires about 20 minutes of my time, so it's not for people who are looking for a breakfast they can grab on the way out the door in the morning. I find it most convenient to only handwash the blade and filter and then to rinse the rest of the components and put them into the dishwasher. That saves me a lot of hassle. Some fruits and vegetables are easier to juice than others. The manual provides a useful explanation of these and how to best juice the more difficult produce. I love the taste of the juice, even vegetables I wouldn't think I'd enjoy. Some vegetables (like broccoli and spinach) are tougher to take than others, but I find that adding half a Granny Smith apple will brighten the taste of any vegetable! The juicer can also be used to make mixed drinks from scratch, like bloody marys and screwdrivers. I also enjoy having fresh squeezed juice for guests when they come to stay with us. To me, all of the benefits I receive from the juicer are well worth the bit of hassle that comes from clean up. I would highly recommend the Power Juicer to anyone who is already kind of a health nut or just feels good when they know they are taking steps to improve their health.

Customer Review: Love it!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this after seeing the infomercial and realized that I just don't eat enough fruits and virtually no vegetables. I wasn't planning to use it to lose weight but I have since I started 'juicing'. I really love the natural juice and while buying all the fruits and vegetables can become a bit pricey, I think it's worth it. I put three large carrots, 3 sticks of celery (including the greens at the end), one large tomato and a few sprigs of parsely down the chute and after it's in the glass I add a few drops of tobasco sauce, it tastes much better than V8. I love this machine because I have been feeling very energized lately and since I have lost some weight it is motivation for me to continue juicing. The only slight drawback is that you have to take it apart to clean every time you use it and pretty quickly after that to avoid particles getting stuck but as much as I love the juice this machine produces, it's a small price to pay. My best friend just purchased a juicer too after I gave her a glass of pure carrot juice. This machine is staying on my counter for the duration.

Customer Review: Juicing Art
Summary: 5 Stars

I am an avid juicer. The JLPJB is a great value for the money. I am always amazed by how good fresh juice looks and tastes when compared to store bought processed "juice". The Power Juicer is easy to clean (I have a video cleaning it in less than 2 minutes on [...]my website dedicated to the wonderful JLPJB) Also I have many tasty recipes for you to try using your Power Juicer at home. Lastly, if you juice fruits/veggies sequentially, you can achieve beautiful art in your pitcher. This juicer is not awesome with leafy veggies, but if you ball them up and mix them with other items, you can still get some juice out of things like spinach, kale, and other green goodies. A little goes a long way with those items anyways. Happy Juicing.

I also recommend a good sharp knife like this Victorinox 47520 Fibrox 8-Inch Chef's Knife to get the items small enough to fit down the hopper.

I have to go now, time to make some fresh grapefruit juice!
