Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of J.A. Henckels Twin Sharp Duo Knife Sharpener

Customer Review: Pretty good sharpener!
Summary: 4 Stars

Need a sharpener every once in awhile and I found this one. Seems to do an okay job...better than some and probably worse than a few others. Overall..the price isn't bad and it works pretty good.

Customer Review: Works great
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a good kitchen drawer sharpener. It works on the entire range of kitchen knives, from soft steel steak knives to hard steel boning knives. Just remember, there are at least two steps to getting a knife sharp. The first is honing, the second is removal of material (sharpening). When your honing steel can't get your knives sharp anymore it's time for some sharpening. Use this sharpener for 10 - 20 seconds and THEN follow up with your honing steel. If you don't follow up with the honing steel you won't get the results you want.

Customer Review: Completely ineffective... it does nothing.
Summary: 1 Stars

The product's sleek design and nice reviews are no substitute for a sharpener that actually works. This one does not. Following the instructions meticulously, using Chicago Cutlery, the device did nothing more than mark the sides a bit. Sharp spots still sharp, dull areas still dull. Nothing. Zero.

Save your time and money.

Customer Review: Wonderful Sharpener
Summary: 5 Stars

We cannot say nice enough things about this sharpener. A friend of ours, who is a chef, sharpens our knives for us but even he cannot sharpen some of our oldest and dullest ones a limitation this sharpener does not have. With just a few strokes on the coarse and on the fine, the knives are sharper then new and the placement of the handle makes every sharpening easy and safe.

My wife and I highly recommend this product.

Customer Review: Good little sharpener!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was poised to purchase an electric knife sharpener. I'm glad I didn't. I think this knife sharpener is just fine for the everyday "Mom" kind of cook. I'm not boning chicken or chopping cups upon cups of veggies every day. I doubt this is for the very serious cook, but that type cook should probably know to hone a knife properly with a stone or a steel.

I used the 2nd slot for a newer top of the line J A Henckels chef knife, and both slots for dull Pampered Chef, Anolon and Martha Stewart knives. I did the paper test after, and all of the knives easily cut the paper at a 45 degree angle.
This sharpener looks great and doesn't take up much space on the counter if you like to hone your knives before each use. Otherwise it fits fine into my knife drawer that is 3 1/2" deep.
I have not used the knives after sharpening - I only did the paper test. I will still probably take the Henckels knife in for professional sharpening when it needs it, but I'll continue to use the 2nd slot to hone it up after every few uses.
Well worth it for $19, but I would hesitate to pay the $40 retail price.
