I have another version of this set that I bought locally. It was much, much nicer. Thought I was getting a deal but was sorely disappointed when the product arrived. Sent it back immediately.

For over 275 years, J.A. Henckels has been known worldwide for making the finest cutlery available in the marketplace. It was in Solingen, Germany in 1731, where knife maker Peter Henckels registered the "twin" symbol - now synonymous with quality knives - making it one of the oldest trademarks in the world.These steak knives look so great I barely want to use them. J.A. Henckels TWIN Gourmet knives combine traditional quality and value. Features of this dependable knife series include: triple-riveted handle design, balanced tang, and high-carbon, stainless steel blades. This set is a perfect complement to a meal among steak lovers.

The laser controlled edge is sharp, and stays sharper longer. In addition, TWIN Gourmet knives use J.A. Henckels' Friodur ice hardening for corrosion resistance, a process that also contributes to cutting-edge retention. TWIN Gourmet knives feature a traditional 3-rivet design handle for strength and durability. These black, Novodur handles are smooth and comfortable to use. The fully visible tang is bonded to the handle, providing proper balance.

From one of Henckels' moderately priced cutlery lines, these eight steak knives divide any rib eye, chop, or roast into bite-size pieces and then store in a handsome wood box. The thin, curved blades are perfect for precise cutting, although their fine serrations tend to tear meat fibers rather than slice neatly through them. Stamped from high-carbon stainless steel, the knives are lighter in weight than forged knives and don't have bolsters, which might not be essential when confronting a thick prime rib. The synthetic handles feature classic three-rivet styling with full tangs for strength. The storage box is stained a rich auburn. It has brass hinges and snap closures and measures 15-1/4 inches long, 1-3/4 inches high, and 5-5/8 inches wide.
