I have owned this set for three and a half years now and don't have any problems with rust on any of my pieces. Given that I purchased my set in late 2003, I am wondering whether sets manufactured later were made with lesser quality. How else to explain the number of reviewers who note a problem with the knives rusting? The only other thought I have is that perhaps these people are simply not taking care of their knives well. I hand wash everything. Maybe these just aren't up to the abuse an automatic dishwasher subjects items to? I don't know.
At any rate, if the quality is still the same as it was three and a half years ago, I would certainly still recommend this set. I have managed to scratch the handles on many of my pieces (small scratches) from ordinary use, washing, and placing them into a container to dry (probably how they are getting scratched, rubbing up against other pieces of flatware), but apart from that the set still looks nice.
I like the feel of the fork and spoon in this set. I actually don't like the feel of the knife very much; the handle is just a little too sleek for anything but the smallest of hands.

We bought this set a couple of months ago and are still loving the look and weight-in-hand of the Opus set. The only problem, which I had not forseen before purchasing, is that they have to be placed "heads down" in the dishwasher basket due to the slim handle. I would normally alternate "heads up" and "heads down" in the dishwasher to avoid the items from nesting and not coming out clean, and so my diswashing scheme is a little less efficient than before. We do like this set enough to keep rather than return, but I just thought this might be a useful tidbit for someone thinking about purchasing. We bought two sets to replace an old Victorian looking set that was never really my style. We are very pleased with them. One of the special features is the sharpness of the dinner knives. They cut through steak with such ease! That is a pleasure-not to have to put out utilitarian looking steak knives!! My only complaint is a very minute one, they are beautiful and shiny when you take them out of the dishwasher, but as soon as you touch them you see prints. I find myself shining them up before I set them down as if I were polishing silver. That aside, I am very happy with them.Customer Review: Love it, but don't wash knives in dishwasher

I love everything about the Opus flatware except for the construction of the knives. The handles are hollow, and I think are filled with a white, chalky substance that has begun to leak from the groove between the handle and the blade (where the two pieces attach). I have stopped washing the knives in the dishwasher, and the problem has ceased. I would prefer the knives to be constructed of one piece of metal, and not have hollow handles. I still absolutely love the look and feel of the pattern, and plan to buy another set.
