Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of J.A. Henckels Premier Series Opus 45-Piece Stainless Steel Flatware Set, Service for 8Customer Review: great, except in the dishwasher Summary: 5 Stars
I have had good experiences with Henckels in the past, and when I needed new flatware this time I looked at all the Henckels styles and handled them to check the weight and balance. I liked the Opus the best. It's simple and classy and feels substantial and well-balanced. I have used it every day for six weeks with no issues with staining or knife halves becoming separated, as mentioned in some older reviews here. The one caution I would give is that it can be a small pain loading this flatware in the dishwasher. The handles on the forks and spoons are narrow enough to poke all the way through the holes in the bottom of the silverware basket. So forks and spoons have to go in heads down, handles up. With the knives, the handle is thicker so it will not poke through, but the blade is thin enough so it pokes through. So knives must go in the silverware basket the opposite way from the rest. I put a few pieces in wrong every time and have to stick my hand in the basket of dirty flatware to pull them out. Just a little annoying....
Customer Review: I love this flatware set Summary: 5 Stars
Of course, style and appearance are personal preference, but I have been looking for a sleek yet simple set of flatware for a long time that wouldn't look or feel cheap. I would've have been willing to pay more, but was thrilled with this set at such a fabulous price. The design looks great with my modern dishes as well as my grandmother's vintage china from the 40s. We find them very comfortable and the weight is exactly what I'd expect from a slim design. I love how shiny they are. You can tell they're quality 18/10 stainless. I haven't any problems with the knives in the dishwasher, as another reviewer did. Perhaps Henckels corrected this problem. Mine come out of the dishwasher looking great. There is a warranty, though, if you do experience problems.
Customer Review: Magnificent Opus Summary: 5 Stars
Previously, our stainless steel silverware was showing its age and not aging well at all. We decided to try Henckels because we have there steak knives and love them. A few of our relatives have 18/10 Silverware and say they love the luster and shine on them. The one thing I was worned about with buying a new silverware set was the weight and if the handles were comfortable. Well this set comes through on all of these things. The 18/10 is beautiful, so shiny, wash after wash. The handles, although thin are very comfortable and seem to feel as though they conform to your hand. My mother-in-law thought they would be uncomfortable as well, but found out at dinner time that they are so comfortable and just a nice every day set. I highly recommend this silverware.
Customer Review: Very nice flatware Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great set of flatware, if you appreciate style and functionality. These look upscale and expensive but for the number of pieces you get for the price, they are a great value that should last a long time. I like the sleek style, but if you have larger hands, the handles may feel too small. I didn't think I would ever need the serving pieces which are included, but they actually have come in handy. Overall, I am quite satisfied with this set and would recommend them to anyone looking for flatware with a unique, yet sophisticated style.
Customer Review: Sturdy and comfortable Summary: 5 Stars
I am really impressed. After reading the reviews I was a little skeptical, but for the price I could not resist. I haven't owned them long, but have washed them, put them through the dish washer and "tested" them with numerous teenage boys and had no problems with breaking, cracking or rusting. They seem strong, yet comfortable to handle and just the right weight. I may just order another set since the boys have a habit of "losing" them in the "man cave".
