I have been wanting a Henckel bread knife for some time, and even had it on my Christmas list, but no one took the hint. When I came across this one for $9.99 at Amazon I was very skeptical, but after reading the other reviews I decided to order it. When it arrived I immediately opened the box to check it out. I found it to be a good size, feels good in my hand, is very well weighted, and after washing and drying it, put it to the test. I sliced into a tomato, and it worked beautifully----I can make very thin slices without smushing. Then, I peeled and sliced a grapefruit with it---lovely. I still haven't used it on bread, but will as soon as I have time to make some crusty peasant herb bread or a loaf of focaccia. I have made a gazillion purchases from Amazon, everything from books to phones, toys, cutting boards, flatware, videos, yoga mats, all kinds of goodies, but have never felt compeled to write a review until now. That should tell you how much I love this knife. I did not give it five stars only because I assume the German made version must be superior---but then look at the cost. This is one of my happier purchases from Amazon. If you would like a great bread knife to use on bread, slice sandwiches, tomatoes, fruit, etc., get this one. For ten bucks it's a steal. And if you should see bread knife on someone's wish list, give them this one.Customer Review: Good bread knife

After reading other reviews about this knife, I decided to purchase it. I'm very pleased with the knife. It is stout, study, and has a good weight and feel in the hands. Also, it goes right through bread, neatly slicing it without any tearing and without leaving excessive crumbs. Naturally, I've had the best luck on loaves that have cooled somewhat before slicing begins, but the knife didn't do a half-bad job on bread right out of the oven.Be very careful with this knife if you leave it down in the sink in dishwater though! It's just as sharp on fingers as it is on bread!!
This bread knife is a great buy for its quality. I'd buy it again!

The Henckels Int. Fine Edge Pro 8-inch bread knife is made in China, and the quality certainly reflect that. But, luckily, so does the price. I'm very happy with how it slices. The only reason I didn't give it a 5star is because when I received it, I could tell that the points of the serrated edges are not cleanly sharpened. There are some slightly benttips and extra steel. But I smoothed it out by placing the flat side down on a flat sharpening stone and slide it back and forth a few times. Henckels "International" line is identical to their regular knives--but it's made in China. It's made very well too, and unless you looked at the fine print, you wouldn't realize that it wasn't made in Germany. The bread knife is a bit shorter than we are used to in the States, but it works well for crusty baguettes and Italian bread. An excellent way to build up your knife collection with a quality product at a bargain price.Customer Review: Great Knife!!

I had never used a bread knife before I purchased this as an addition to my kitchen. I was very pleasantly surprised at the ease that this knife cut through loaf of crusty sun dried tomato bread. Just the right texture to increase the surface so toasting really works well, without an excess of crumbs. And the price was excellent.
