Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of J.A. Henckels International Eversharp Pro 9-Piece Steak Knife Block Set

Customer Review: good value
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought some Eversharp Pro steak knifes a couple years ago. The handles for these are slightly different but the set is a good value. I am happy I bought them.

Customer Review: Henckels Steak Knives
Summary: 5 Stars

We own many Henckels' knives. These are the same quality at about 40% of the list price. How could we not be happy?

Customer Review: excellent product and value
Summary: 5 Stars

We are very pleased with the product sharpness, design weight and holder. Great value for the money.

Customer Review: outstanding knifes
Summary: 5 Stars

These are very sharp knifes and so easy to find because they are in a block. Well worth the price!

Customer Review: Pretty good steak knives, NOT the best Henckles out there though.
Summary: 4 Stars

To start with, I got this set mainly for the block. I replaced my knife set with a pretty nice Set of Henckles a few years ago, which came with a block but no slots for steak knives. I've been looking for a nice block just for the steak-knives ever since but had no luck finding one with the quality and look that I like. Most cheaper ones have slots so narrow that it won't fit any nice steak knife.

Getting a nice block-only alone would have cost me about $20 (Well, most won't go out and spend that money for a block only unless they are looking for a match, which is exactly my case). This set was on sale on Amazon for not too much more than the block alone which I would spend anyway, so I think I am getting an extra set of Henckles steak knife for about $10. Nice deal!

It arrived, with a very nice block that matched prefectly with my 'main' knife block: same material, color, handsome logo... That's what I looked for so I'm happy.

The knife itself are fine:
Its light, but heavier than it looks (which is a good thing for knife. Contrast to some's logic of thinking, a heavier knife is actually both easier and safer to use than a lighter one. Same rules go for sharpness. But this is not the place to dicuss that.)
It is from its "Eversharp" line which is of Henckles' lower end (not that they are bad knife, just how Henckles name their product-lines) and the knife has the look of an 'eversharp'.
To try to describe the LOOK of an "eversharp": Black ployester handle; "two-tone" finish on the blade (mirror finish on the most area, brush-stainless finish near the cutting edge); "micro-serrated" edge so you don't see big 'teeth' on the edge, but sure it was serrated. It actually looks very nice but it doesn't give you the ellegance look of more expensive ones (forge blade, wooden-balanced handle, smooth edge...)
Function: Cuts very well! Sharp!

Consulsion:
> Someone used Honda and Mercedes to compare this, I'll use similar analogy. Think Toyota: They make luxury Avalons, nice camary, ... sensible collora, smaller primus... All carry the brand Toyota. So you may have your preference toward the brand name Toyota (in this case Henckles). Its toyota always better/worse than other makers? It matter more on how YOU think. For me: I always trust the name Hanckles. This set is handsome but it does not give me all the feature and ellegant looks of a "nice Henckle" (so it is not Avalon or Camary, its probably a basic collora or a primus but its all depends on your need and taste. Some preferr a Celica over a land-cruser, it all depends on what fit you the best) but IT FUNCTIONS WELL. It has the Henckle's name behind it but you have to remember you are buying a lower end line. Nothing wrong with that, just "is it what you are looking for?"

As for me: It was a great buy since I am mainly looking for the block. Also, I got it while they were on sale at Amazon (lowest I have seen, and haven't seen it that low since). I thought I would just use the block with my old set of steak knives but end up using the new ones as a set. So I am happy for what I have paid for. Would I buy it for the regular Amazon price of around $50? Probably not.
