Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of J.A. Henckels International Everedge 13-Piece Knife Set with Bonus Cheese Knife

Customer Review: This is an unbeatable deal, Great Knives Great Price
Summary: 5 Stars

Years ago, I had started a Henkels 4 Star collection, and found joy in using them. They are the kind of item that you sharpen, polish, and use caringly, the way you would treat something you plan on using for a lifetime. Well I don't live alone, and when they started getting sharpened on the face as well as the edge, I decided it was time to save them for special uses, rather than everyday. So when I saw these Henkels, especially at the Amazon.com sale price, I decided to give them a try. Glad I did. Since they don't need to be sharpened, I didn't have to worry about someone scarring the face with a sharpener. They are very sharp. They create their sharpeness with a minutely serrated edge. You have to be careful when cleaning these knives, because it is possible to cut yourself, when scrubbing along the very side edge of the blade, as well as the actual cutting edge. The serrations only go up a minute amount, but enough to cut yourself along the side of the blade. A little care when cleaning, to use a sponge or whatever, and avoid direct contact with your skin.
The solid wood holder is very nice. The Henkel logo emblazoned on the front is a nice touch for your kitchen.
I don't really have anything negative to say about these knives at all. They are sharp. The selection suits most every need. You can use them and not have to worry about them. They are durable. I am not a knife expert, but I understand that these are stamped, instead of forged and ground like their more expensive sets. Notwithstanding, they look good, cut great, and have sufficient durability to them to be used for a very long time.
I bought them when they were listed at the better price, and at that number, it pays to get a set just to keep as a gift.
Definitely a 5 star product considering the quality and the price. Hope this helps.

Customer Review: Excellent Value for Non Professionals
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been extremely happy with this set of knives, and for only $40 I believe them to be an excellent value. The blades are sharp and well constructed, and the handles are comfortable and seem durable. The set only comes with two long knives, so you may find yourself washing them while cooking, but we like to use the steak knives for chopping smaller vegetables or trimming meat and have thus rarely found that we are short on knives while cooking. If you're looking to do professional work, these knives probably won't fit your needs, but for an average cook, we use them a lot and haven't found anything they can't handle. Plus, you are getting the set for about $3 per knife, and these knives would run at least $10 to $15 each if purchased individually or at a local retailer.

Customer Review: So sharp my husband cut off half his finger the first time!
Summary: 5 Stars

Really sharp. I mean, really sharp! If you're used to dull knives, be prepared. These are sharp. They'll slice through anything- frozen food, fresh tomatoes, my poor cutting board, and that bouquet of flowers that you need to trim the stems on. They work great. This company is great, and these knives are amazing, even besides the price. Love 'em.
***As of July '04, will still cut through a finger. Many stitches later, and still pretty numb, these have cut through a second digit. Still shiny. Don't use in dishwasher, just like the instructions say. Luckily, they need more than one push to go all the way through a bone, so don't worry about cutting a finger OFF. But please be careful, because they are extremely sharp, and a great price too!

Customer Review: Nice Knives, Excellent Deal
Summary: 5 Stars

Excellent knife set for the money. Like everyone else has said in their reviews these knives are very nice and do exactly what they are supposed to: cut. Great beginner set, or at least a first time set. We just got a house and need a set of knives that do the trick. Nice case with the J.A. Henckels logo.

Pros: They're knives, they cut, they dice, they clean well

Con: They're a hard plastic that are not entirely fancy, and I like fancy.

Conclusion: if you're looking for a inexpensive knife set that cuts well and looks decent this is a great buy; but if you're expecting a deluxe knife set that looks like it cost a lot of money take a look at a more expensive set.

Customer Review: We bought this set 20 years ago and still love and use them
Summary: 5 Stars

We bought this set over 20 years ago to replace a low quality set given to us as a wedding present that didn't hold up. All these knives have kept their edges and not developed nicks or scratches in the steel from daily use dispite the abuse from 2 children and a rough husband! They all look and work almost as well as they did when purchased! I don't know if Henkels has changed their manufacturing process for these knives over the years, so I can't speak to the negative reviews listed. However, if I had to go out and buy another good quality, all purpose kitchen knife set today, this would be the first set that I would consider purchasing!
