Just right...I have four steak knives and two small kitchen knives in the small slots, and I have larger kitchen knives in the rest. It holds my sharpening steel as well.
The finish is good quality, and while the design isn't the most beautiful, it's in a drawer that's closed most of the time--so who cares? It doesn't hold shears, but there's no need for those to be in a knife block (no exposed edge when they're closed). Store shears with your cooking spoons, tongs, etc.
I like my counter uncluttered and I like my knives protected. This is the perfect solution.

I love this 13-Slot In-Drawer Knife Tray. This high quality product is beautiful and functional. I hate clutter on my counter tops and this storage tray is the perfect answer for safe storage. I looked at another style of in-drawer knife storage and read about problems taking out the small knives, but no problems with this design. Even my husband thought this was great. If you have little ones around, be careful choosing the drawer for knife storage. Hey, J.A. Henckels, please make a 6 or 8 slot in-drawer STEAK knife tray style like this great product. I bought this item because I needed the knife block off my kitchen counter with my two year old monkey running around. I was a little bit disappointed that I couldn't find one to hold the santuko knives based on reviews, as we have two of them. Upon receiving this item, I was very excited, it fit perfectly into my utensil drawer with a bit of room on the side. My two santuko knives actually DID fit very nicely.
I have zero complaints about this item, it's a great bargain and perfect for baby-proofing (or monkey-proofing) your kitchen. Definitely a great buy!

I have never been a fan of knife blocks, and do not like the fact they are uncleanable and take up counter space. I love this alternative drawer tray. High quality, solid and gorgeous. For thirty bucks, it's worth it to carefully store knives that cost so much more. Also, if you have many knives, it's easy to forget which is which when pulling out of a block, but this drawer tray lets me see everything without guessing. Also, with a little air can and cleaning wipes, there is nothing I couldn't clean out of this drawer.Customer Review: You need a drawer knife tray

Quality wood and design. Everyone needs a knife tray to protect the cutting edge of the blades. The longer blades go in as shown in the photo. Short knives such as parers sit forward between the large knife blades. All handles are safely grabbed with no danger of touching a cutting edge or point. A tray also gets those unsightly knife blocks off the counter and out of sight and the slots for the blades won't get dusty and grimy. Block designs will get dusty, then grimy and with no way to clean the slots.
