Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Imusa VICTORIA-85008 Victoria Cast Iron Tortilla Press, 8-Inch

Customer Review: My first tortilla press
Summary: 4 Stars

This is my first press so I don't have anything to compare it to but here is my experience.

It does a good job of making fairly flat round tortillas, but one side is usually slightly thicker than the other just due to the nature of how the press is constructed.

Clean up is hard because it does not go in the dishwasher.

This thing is HEAVY so sometimes it is a burden to drag out of the drawer.

Make sure you use some cooking spray or oil with it or tortillas will stick to the surface.

Works well to make flat breads and tortillas.

I do not notice the surface flaking off, it has held up for me for over a year.

Customer Review: Time Saver!
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased this item because I was really tired of 'rolling out' the tortilla dough. This press makes it quick and easy; but you have to take a good bit of time to find the proper texture of the dough to get the best press. So, more of an end user issue vs. the product itself. I recommend this item; and so far I am very happy with it. If you have a friend or family member that enjoys cooking up their own specialty foods; this would be a nice addition to their kitchen. Price is nice for gift giving.

Customer Review: Does the job
Summary: 4 Stars

We just bought this and made tortillas for the first time and think it worked quite well. True to the other reviews it came a little greasy, but with a simple wash it was fine. I actually use Pam spray to keep the masa from sticking so it's always a little greasy anyways. Took a few tries to figure out how to get them to the right consistency, but with the right masa mixture and a few attempts it makes great tortillas. The product is exactly what it says it is so I would recommend it.

Customer Review: Great for corn tortillas
Summary: 4 Stars

We use this to make "Gorditas" or thicker corn tortillas for chalupas (tostadas). Works perfectly for that.
We've tried on flour tortillas and haven't quite figured out how to keep dough from shrinking back a bit. It presses the dough out to 8", but then it shrinks a bit trying to get it off the wax paper (wax paper keeps dough from sticking to it). We are happy just using it for corn tortillas.

Customer Review: Cast Iron Tortilla Press Opinion
Summary: 4 Stars

The tortilla press is exactly as it is described. The addition of a simple guideline for sample grams per tortilla would be a nice addition. Lodge cookware comes with a small booklet for product care along with recipes. Not so this brand.
If you are thinking of purchasing this item do it now as the price of iron ore doubled today.
