Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Coffeeduck Classic: Permanent Refillable Coffee Filter for the Senseo models HD7810-HD7812Customer Review: great accessory Summary: 5 Stars
Love this thing.
I've had my Senseo for years and years...well made...top quality...but the regular pods just aren't good. It's surprising that the coffee is so second-rate because the machine is so well made. What I was looking for was the coffee I got in Switzerland: wonderful rich mild Columbian espresso with a crema top!
I'm a contractor, so when I've got money, I buy my favorite Wolfgang Puck pods for it (Rodeo).
When I'm between jobs and broke, it's the duck! I buy my favorite whole bean coffee and then grind it in the supermarket at the first espresso setting. Works terrific. Just like Switzerland! The full duck makes a double.
It's also great for decaf. I only use the Swiss Water Processed decaf and it's hard to find really good pods of it. So now I can get my favorite SWP decaf and always have it on hand.
I recommend that if you use the Duck, it's best to buy the whole bean coffee and grind it espresso-fine. Regular grinds will likely come out too weak.
Plus, I've had my Senseo 'explode' - i.e., water all over everywhere - using the regular pods!!! If you don't get them placed correctly and they're slightly off-center - the vacuum seal isn't correct and there's water everywhere. So be certain, using the Duck, that the edges are clean so the Senseo vacuum seal works correctly.
Customer Review: IT WORKS Summary: 5 Stars
I had a senseo coffee machine for over a year. I hated it and never used it because all the pods I bought didn't fit (although the websites say it would)or the the coffee was so weak it resembled yellow cat urine. I finally decided to get the coffee duck because I was tired of making a pot of coffee for one cup. When you buy the coffee duck, make sure you read the instructions and put only espresso ground coffee in it. If not, you'll get weak yellow colored coffee. I use Caffe Kimbo gold medal or Lavazza espresso. When you fill the coffee duck, make sure you leave 4-5mm space on the top and even it out. No need to tamp it down. I prefer the European style stronger coffee, not the weak diner/pancake house type. I press the single cup and then fill the coffee duck again and press the single cup again. Use a knock box to keep all the coffee grounds from dripping all over the kitchen floor. I found that there's no need to rinse the coffee duck inbetween making my serving of coffee. I just wipe clean the edges after knocking out as much wet espresso ground that I can. When I'm done, then I rinse and dry the coffee duck. Now I use this everyday. Now how do I get rid of all those coffee pods in my basement?....
Customer Review: Using it at the office Summary: 5 Stars
I just bought this item and the Senseo used on craigslist and tried it out as soon as I got home. I am planning on taking it to work where mostly we drink tea and occasionally have coffee drinkers who may want caf or decaf. So, I tested the following:
*Water only (so you could have hot water for tea) - worked great. On the 1 cup setting it put out about 8 oz of hot water. On the 2 cup setting it filled my 16 oz cup and wasn't stopping (so I just hit the power button).
*Coffee, pre-ground in Coffeeduck - made myself an 8oz cup using the 2 cup setting. Tasted good and had a bit of that foam on the top that I keep reading about. I am an occasional coffee drinker.
*Loose Chai tea in Coffeeduck - this was okay. This is my preferred morning beverage, and it definitely tasted different than using a tea ball. It got the sharpness of the flavor but lacked the depth that I'm used to (again, I usually don't go into describing my drinks at length). I'd drink it, but think I prefer the usual way I brew it.
Haven't ever used a pod, so I can't compare. Pretty happy with the results I've seen this morning, and it's perfect for our needs at work.
Customer Review: It works great, and taste good. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this with Proctor Silex E160B Fresh Grind Coffee Grinder, White at the same time.
I have to say. This works out better than I expected. Now i can have my favorite tea, coffee, flower, any flavor i want.
Just dont forget to grind the coffee/tea with Proctor Silex E160B Fresh Grind Coffee Grinder, White. Since it's fine powder, dont forget to leave some room in the Refillable Coffee Filter.
Never ever fill more than half of the Refillable Coffee filter. The tea/coffee will come out strong for 2 cup setting if you fill with a little bit less than half full.
Enjoy. Dont have to find your "favorite" pod anymore since you can just fresh grind the whole beans/leafs and enjoy whatever flavor you want to blend with. For me, I blend the tea with dry jasmine flowers.
Life can't be better. :) sit back and enjoy the best coffee/tea you have at home in 2 minutes.
Customer Review: Works as advertised, have had no major problems, would recommend to friends/family Summary: 5 Stars
Like others, I had been using Senseo pods but felt tempted to try all the varieties of coffee out there. I am using this with fresh roasted coffee from Peet's. I have had good results with #3 and #4 grinds. I wouldn't say I am a coffee master or connoisseur, but I really do appreciate the flavors and I think it works well. I can definitely notice a huge difference in taste and freshness when using this vs. senseo pods, which can never match a local roaster in freshness.
If you looking mainly for economy, the Senseo pods subscriptions on Amazon are getting really cheap and they are decent. Its just that having the option of regularly fresh coffee using this is more appealing to me, and ends up costing about the same or less than the pods. Plus, you don't have all that waste!
I have had it for a few months, using it daily and have not encountered any problems. For those struggling with hot grounds, I just leave it there to cool until the next time I have coffee, and then just dump them then. Rinses clean, no issues.
If you are on the fence, I think it is definitely worth it.
