Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Household Essentials 4000 30-Line Outdoor Parallel-Style Clothes Dryer with Steel ArmsCustomer Review: Does the Job and Meets Expectations Summary: 4 StarsI received this just over a month ago after researching a few outdoor clothesline options. I liked that you can fold it up and put it away during bad weather, as I probably won't be using it much here in Seattle over the winter! It arrived on-time as expected, and was fairly easy to set up. Our backyard already had a hole and post from a previous umbrella line so we just plopped it in there. As others have noted, it did have a thin layer of grease, so I did have to clean it before I used it. It came off easily with Simple Green and in less than an hour was ready to go. I'm still tightening the strings as I put out the laundry but that's to be expected. It holds quite a lot of laundry, I'd say four medium-large loads. It seems pretty strong and sturdy and so far I haven't had any trouble with it. I gave it four stars because it met, but did not exceed, my expectations.
Customer Review: Love It Summary: 5 StarsLove this clothes line! Used it for the first time today and had no problems. Easy to put up, other than it's a little bit of a pain to dig the hole and pour the concrete, etc. But I love that it has the sleeve, so I can just leave that in the ground and not have the unit permanently in my yard. The sleeve is level with the ground, so will be able to mow right over it. I'm able to put a full load of laundry on it and it holds it fine. I will have to re-tighten the lines as they are sagging, but the instructions do say that they may need to be re-tightened after the first 3 or 4 uses. Oh, I had no problem with any grease on mine.
If you're looking for a semi-permanent clothes line at a reasonable price, I would definitely recommend this one!
Customer Review: Wonderful product Summary: 5 StarsThis is a great product, I live in North Texas and we get really stong winds and this product stands up great to it. I can put up 2-3 loads of clothes with no problem, sheets and blankets go up great. The turning of the umbrella makes the clothes dry even faster. The product came in about 3 days and had no defects to it at all.
Customer Review: Great way to go green! Summary: 4 StarsThe clothesline is a great way to save on electricty and go green. The hardest part of putting up the clothesline is digging the hole and pouring the cement. The only complaint I have is it needs a cover so it can be used as a patio umbrella as well as a clothesline.
Customer Review: Not Ready for Use Summary: 2 StarsI had an aluminum Whitney out door clothes dryer that lasted one year. Aluminum arms and pivot bracket failed. So I decided to go with a smaller unit with steel arms. As others mentioned, there was grease everywhere and the entire unit, lines inlcuded had to be degreased before it could be used. It is sturdier than the aluminum and once it has been cleaned a couple of times it will probably be fine. The line was very loose when I got it so I had to tighten it up once it was up. This also revealed that there is grease inside the bars and as I pulled the line through the holes, more grease came out on the lines. I used Orange Degreaser and this removed the grease but, plan on investing an hour cleaning before you try and use this. For the amount of work you have to put into this to get it ready to use, you should insist on free shipping or be sure that if you return it you can get the shipping costs back as they pretty high !
Update: Shop At Clares who was the seller of this product, not the manufacturer or shippper, did respond and to their credit, in their shipping information to Whitney, they asked that a new unit be sent to me at no charge. They also requested, in writing, that the unit be checked for grease prior to shipping. The new unit arrived yesterday and had more grease on it than the first one. Clearly Shop At Clares does not have any control over the manufacturing and I can not fault them for what is clearly a probelm at the manufacturing level however, as I have mentioned to them, they should drop this item. There have been numerous complaints about grease on these units. My recommendation; while the steel is suppose to be much stronger, stick with the aluminum and ge gentle.
