Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of HONEYWELL ENVIRACAIRE HWM910 Warm Moisture 2 Gallon HumidifierCustomer Review: works for about 5 years now Summary: 5 Stars
I originally got this for my son when he would get coughs since no over the counter medicines helped very much. I doubted that it would help his coughs since I had no experiences with humidifiers, but it helped a lot while he slept. It has helped my daughter for coughs due to colds too. My daughter also has non-allergic rhinitis which is just like allergies, but the immune system is not involved so she doesn't actually produce histamines to cause her symptoms. This is good and bad because medicines do little or nothing to help with her congestion, runny nose, and coughing due to congestion at night. Apparently one cause of non-allergic rhinitis is lack of humidity which makes nasal passages swell up in some people. I used to think she had allergies or a perpetual cold, but her symptoms start around 7-8 at night and last till about 10-11 in the morning. She is fine for a few hours during the day. This humidifier is used for colds, and for my daughter's condition. My daughter can breathe and she hardly coughs anymore since she was diagnosed a few months ago. I like that there are no filters for this humidifier and it has kept working for so long with fairly easy maintenance. I soak the heating unit in the tray with a little vinegar water every 1-2 weeks to clean the heating unit and the tray at the same time. I used to only clean the tray this way, but I wanted to see if it would work for the heating unit and so far it has worked. I also rub off and rinse the hard water residue after I dump out the vinegar and water.I fill the water tank with water and put a small amount of bleach in as recommended in the instructions. The unit hasn't leaked since the gasket is strong and it the lid screws on tight. The tank is easy to fill and carry from the bathtub spout.Make sure the unit clicks into the base properly and you push the start button because it won't turn on otherwise. I have made the mistake of not having the unit clicked into the base the right way and a couple of hours later I found that it didn't turn on. This is a safety measure and I am glad to have it. I run it for about 8 hours a night on low. I hooked it up to a timer so it shuts off on it's own. I only wish it didn't get so hot hear in Southern CA so I could use it during the summer when it gets over 100 degrees F. I need to get a cool mist humidifier, but I dread the maintenance and/or filters.
Customer Review: An Effective Small Humidifier Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this unit to humidify a small study (11 x 10) where I wanted to reduce ESD issues for electronic equipment. This unit fits the bill perfectly.
The unit has no humidistat, so you cannot set it for a desired humidity. It has a high and a low setting only. That is fine for me since I have it on only when I am in the room. When the desired humidity is reached, I simply shut it off. Of course, this requires a hygrometer to measure the humidity. In this size room, it can increase the humidity fairly quickly. For example, if the humidity in the room is 32%, on the high setting, it will raise the humidity into the 40's in about twenty minutes. I would recommend setting it on low if you will have it running unattended for any length of time.
It holds about one gallon of water despite what the advertisement and box say. I noticed this deception on many humidifiers though. It uses a heater to produce a warm mist. The mist production is gently and there is no spray or droplets that drop down on the surrounding area as I have read about with other humidifiers. I use soft water and there is no white powder deposited anywhere as has been reported on some humidifiers.
However, you must clean this unit regularly with bleach; I do it once a week or so. It is very easy. Just fill the container with water and add one teaspoon of bleach and leave sit for twenty minutes. If you use hard water you will also have to use vinegar to de-scale the unit periodically as well. This advice is true for all humidifiers - they all require routine maintenance.
For my purposes, this unit works just fine - no complaints.
Customer Review: Great humidifier for smaller room Summary: 5 Stars
We got this from a store yesterday, planning to read reviews when we got home and returning the item if we needed to. Most reviews were positive (the bad reviews did not apply to our needs) so we decided to open the box and run it. It's great!
I am baffled by reviews that complained humidifier is too small. Why would you buy a 2-gal humidifier and complain it's too small?? Also, those people who complained about tank capacity, that it doesn't hold 2 gal -- box clearly indicates 2-gallon "output", not 2-gallon tank. People, READ before you buy so you don't made silly complaints.
We've owned several humidifiers in the past in different apts. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to humidify just one smaller room (our bedroom is 11' x 14' -- it's NYC, what can I say). It's very quiet -- like the gurgling a small, quiet aquarium. Also, I ran it on Low from 8pm to 7am and had 1/3 tank of water left in the morning. I think if I had put it on High, it would have been fine, too, although the reservoir would likely be empty. That is totally fine to have such a tidy-looking humidifier in your bedroom. Seriously, the reservoir is very easy to fill so it's not like it's a major chore to refill it 2x per day.
Customer Review: The quest has an end.... Summary: 5 Stars
After I complained about all the humidifier I was dissatisfied with, I now want to encourage everyone to buy this product here. I was looking for a humidifier that makes it easier to stand the dry winter air in SC, so I bought a Kaz product first, and I was very disappointed. And then I came across this Honeywell humidifier and I've used it for about a week now.
First of all: The two different setting work very well. Both setting produce pleasant warm mist. The water tank is big enough to last all night. On the high setting, it will run about 10 hours, on the low setting, it runs even longer.... The humidity in my bedroom rose from 28% to 38% over night. Plus it's completely (!) silent. I'm absolutely satisfied with this product and I'm so glad I finally found a humidifier that works the way it's supposed to.
The only thing that could put some people off is that this product doesn't look to technical. There is one knob to choose the setting and a switch to turn the whole thing on. It's not as pretty as other products I tried, but quite frankly: who cares?
I can completely recommend this product to everyone!
Customer Review: Perfect for small apartment Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this small humidifier after returning the Honeywell HCM-6009 QuietCare 9-Gallon Console Humidifier with Air Washing Technology. The HCM-6009 was an enormous, noisy, high-maintenance, monstrosity that took up a lot of space and required $30 filters. If you are loaded and have a big place, it might work great for you.
Four our less than 400 square foot apartment, the Enviracare is a much better fit. We have it on the dresser and run it most days and every night. If you fill it right before bedtime, it will run all night on the Low setting. So what I do is fill it up when I get home from work, run it on High to get the room air moist, then refill it to run on Low while I sleep.
After schlepping the unwieldy HCM-6009 tanks to the bathtub to fill, refilling the Enviracare tank in the kitchen sink is no sweat. It makes occasional gurgling sounds that my husband and I find soothing.
There are no filters, it's super easy to clean, and dirt cheap. What's not to love?
