Customer Review: I didn't believe it ... but this really is a better mouse trap
Summary: 5 Stars

I fly a lot to Europe and Asia. I've tried the standard "horseshoe" neck pillows that we've all seen. I've tried the inflatable ones, the ones filled with foam, the ones filled with buckwheat hulls, etc., etc., etc. During each flight, I fidget and fuss and try to get comfortable with the neck pillow, then eventually I give up, stuff it under my seat, and resign myself to reading instead of sleeping.

Out of desperation, I bought this product based on the incredible reviews. I was skeptical, but it was small (unlike the foam-filled neck pillows) and cost no more than a bad airport meal. So I gave it a try on a flight to India.

I was amazed. The crazy thing works! It's hard to describe how different this thing feels compared to a traditional neck pillow, but it's far more comfortable. It stays in place and seems to be a much better fit for the way your body and head want to position themselves when sleeping in an airplane seat. At last, an ergonomic airplane pillow.

One note: If you wrap the retaining strap around the back of your seat (which is the best way to use this pillow), make sure you don't wrap it around the tray table of the person behind you. In fact, as a courtesy, it's a good idea to explain to the person behind you why you've looped a string around the seat.

In terms of price per hour of sleep, this product is a great investment. I'm glad I took a chance and bought it. I won't take another intercontinental flight without it. Kudos and thanks to the guy who designed it.

UPDATE JANUARY 2011: I used this pillow again last night on the red-eye. Once again, it was worth its weight in gold. If you buy the pillow, I'd highly recommend that you also buy the microfleece cover, which just became available. For ten bucks, it puts a soft, cozy cover on the TravelRest pillow. The cover is very light weight and takes up minimal additional room.

Customer Review: The Perfect Travel Pillow
Summary: 5 Stars

I am planning a trip to Europe this summer and, considering airline luggage restrictions and my own physical limitations, want to pack as lightly as possible. I really love traveling with my own pillows, but that was not going to be an option on this trip, so I was browsing amazon.com to see what travel pillows were available. I wanted something inflatable that would not take up much room in my suitcase when not in use, but it also had to be comfortable and supportive. When I came across the TravelRest inflatable travel pillow, it looked like the perfect fit.

When I received the TravelRest, I was delighted to find it was a simple, but sturdy design--easy to inflate, easy to deflate, and easy to roll up when not in use. When rolled up it only takes up half the space in a gallon-sized ziplock bag and also comes with a handy snap to hold it in the rolled up position. But I was most impressed by how comfortable the pillow is. Since it is inflatable, it is easy to adjust the firmness of the pillow by either adding more air or deflating it a bit.

It comes with full, illustrated directions on several positions for using it (secured around a seat back, snapped over a seat belt, or around the shoulders like a guitar). I like wearing it like a guitar best. The rounded end fully supports your head and neck and the longer body of the pillow gives great support for your arm, especially nice for us side sleepers.

This will be the perfect pillow for a long transatlantic flight, a cross country train ride, or a long auto trip. It will also be nice to have as one's personal pillow from home when staying overnight in hotels or motels. I recommend it highly.

Customer Review: no more lugging around a heavy full-size pillow!
Summary: 5 Stars

I could never find a travel pillow that worked for me, so for years I have been lugging around a 3 lb buckwheat pillow on every trip just to sleep on red eye flights. Being a side-sleeper, the neck pillows didn't keep my head high enough and wouldn't stay in place without me constantly repositioning them. But, I got this just before my last trip and found that it enabled me to sleep on a plane just about as well as I ever have (even without reclining the seat). The consistency can't match my buckwheat, of course (it feels the same as all other fuzzy inflatable pillows), but since it is 1/10 the size and weight, it wins hands down.

The weird (okay "different") shape provides a much larger and more stable surface to put your head on. I wasn't able to attach the cord to the back of the seat because of electronics, but I attached the bottom to the seatbelt which helped a lot to keep it in place (especially when I hugged the middle). I thought it was more comfortable when it wasn't fully inflated and would have liked the top part to be even bigger (I ended up using some old neck pillows to fill up the window area and prop it up more), but the size was already getting quizzical looks from my seatmates (though they seemed intrigued). Although it is large, it is really quick and easy to inflate and deflate because the nozzle does not give much resistance. And, it is thin, so it doesn't get in the way and rolls up very small.

All in all, if you like the neck pillows then you probably don't need this. But, if you are a side sleeper, want a larger surface area, or like to hold on to something when sleeping, then you should definitely check this out.

Customer Review: great product backed by top notch customer service
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased six of these pillows for my families trip to Hawaii. I needed something that wouldn't take up much space in a carryon and that would help my four children sleep while on a 6 hour red eye flight. I didn't find them online until two days before we were to leave and it was past the cutoff time to order them from Amazon and get them before we left. I called the company directly and they ran my order through by hand in order to send them over night. They also gave me a discount for ordering multiple ones and sent me two free pillow covers to help offset the higher overnight shipping charge. They even went as far to encourage me to order them directly from amazon in the future because of the free shipping. The customer service would have sold me on the product by itself. They definately went above and beyond to be sure I was happy with my purchase. I loved actually using the product and got some decent sleep sitting upright as did my children. I used it only with the strap around my back because it felt less intrusive than strapping it to the seat. If you do order the pillows read over the instructions and try to play around with it ahead of time. Despite the rest of us sleeping well with it, my husband couldn't figure out how to make it work for him. I think I will have him read through the instructions himself and try it again next time. I can't ever get comfortable for long on a plane, but these pillows made a huge difference for me. I'm sure we will continue to get great use from these in the future.

Customer Review: A pleasant surprise
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been looking for a good, reliable, and portable traveling pillow for quite some time, and in all honesty I was reluctant to pick the TravelRest pillow due to the odd shape. But after taking the plunge all the doubts were dismissed - this is a superior product.

Positives:
Compact - the pillow deflates and rolls up easily, taking up virtually no space, and weighting next to nothing.

Comfortable - no comparison to any other product I had tried. Once the pillow had been inflated and secured it was an absolute delight, one can even cuddle up with it, wrapping hands around the bottom part. No neck strain after prolonged use. Comfy texture. Perfection.

Adjustable - by inflating and deflating the pillow, one can regulate the firmness of it. The whole thing can be easily shifted from left shoulder to the right, according to your preference. Added option to securing the pillow to the seat or your own body (my preference lies with the latter).

Negative:
The fact that someone begins to inflate something of such peculiar shape in the cabin of a plane will often lend you a few confused glances, but in my experience, by the end of the trip those will change into the stares of envy. Whatever the case may be, a great rest is well worth a few raised eyebrows.

If you wish to rest while on a long trip, be it a bus, car, train, or an airplane, this IS the way to go.
Try it. You will love it - I assure you.
