Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Headwind 820-1002 EZ Read Jumbo Rain GaugeCustomer Review: Texas size rain gauge Summary: 5 Stars
My husband loves this rain gauge and can read it from his upstairs office. He mounted it on a 4x4 in the center of our yard and is excited to tell me the readings.
Customer Review: Love it Summary: 5 Stars
This was a replacement for a 15 year old one. It works perfectly to allow me to see the gauge from in the house.
Customer Review: Taylor Jumbo Rain Gauge Summary: 3 Stars
This unit is a very close cousin of other Jumbo EZ Read rain gauges we've used before. They all suffer an Achilles heel wherein the plug on the bottom is glued to the see-through plastic tube above. When you have to replace it (and you will), it will be because the clear plastic is cracked and leaks out the water. We live in southeast Texas where green mold develops in the bottom of the tube. Unfortunately, this time I decided to fill the tube and swish the water around at the bottom. The bottom couldn't take the weight of the 5" of water in the tube and dropped out. Moral: Be very gentle when emptying the tube. FYI, this model is a bit cheaper than the other branded models we've used before... because it's 3-4 inches shorter. When I reorder, I'll buy the other brand because it is indeed easier to read. Bottom line is that these jumbo gauges are still the most useful gauges on the market.
Customer Review: coarse measurements Summary: 2 Stars
The reason for purchasing this gage was the obvious expansion of the rain total in the tube for easier reading. However, the graduations on the side of the tube are in .25" increments. One could interpolate I suppose, but that is just a bit too crude for my scientific background. Your Aunt Tilley who can't see very well will like it though.
