I've been using a trimmer with no guard for 12 years now, but I've decided I want to start going all the way down to the hard candy shell. But using my standard face razor and holding a hand mirror while standing in front of the medicine cabinet mirror, geez, it just takes too darn long and is incredibly awkward.
I saw the HeadBlade on a television documentary about entrepreneurism and bought one. It's awesome. It's soooooo much faster than shaving with a traditionally-shaped razor, like Mach 3, Atra, or the like. I've used it twice now, and it has not left a single nick, scrape, or cut. One thing I would recommend is, if you have loose skin over your skull, which many men do, hold your skin taut with your other hand while shaving.
