This is one of those little gizmos you don't know you need until you have it. Well, you probably don't actually "need" this, but it's really a handy thing.
This is a special-purpose cutter. It's not designed for heavy duty; rather, it's intended to cleanly and easily slice coupons, articles, etc., out of magazines and newspapers. For that purpose, it works MUCH better-- meaning quicker and cleaner-- than a pair of scissors, a razor blade, an Xacto knife, etc. It takes a little practice to learn how much pressure to apply, but once you have it down, you can easily cut out something without damaging the page underneath.
In addition, the cutter blade seems safe. I'm not willing to run it hard across my fingers to see what happens, but I can run a finger lightly across the little ceramic "blade" without it seeming dangerous.
I think this cutter is a real bargain. It fits its niche perfectly. It won't do any heavy-duty cutting, but it's not designed for that. I'd buy another one of these right away if I lost the one I have.
