Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Benriner Japanese Mandoline Slicer

Customer Review: Very Sharp and great for the price
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great mandolin for small jobs. It is extremely sharp, cleans easily and can be taken apart easily to clean thoroughly or sharpen the blade. This is a great mandolin for most home cooks, it's not heavy duty but it gets the job done. It's also very compact so it stores easily.

The cutting surface is a little small so it won't slice large greens like cabbage but it does a great job on carrots, cucumbers and most potatoes (potatoes sometimes have to be trimmed slightly)

Customer Review: Very pleased!
Summary: 5 Stars

This mandolin performed much better than I expected for the price. It adjusts very easily for paper thin slices. I found it safe enough, so long as you respect it as you would a razor-sharp knife. I purchased it specifically for vegetables, as it was designed for, and I haven't been disappointed yet.
I haven't experienced any rust problems yet, but I will do as suggested by another reviewer and keep the blades oiled when not in use.

Customer Review: Waste is the key to this beauty.
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had the Benringer for over 5 years now, and like it so much that I bought it for my best friend. My advice to him: "the key to staying intact with this gadget is waste - waste and cut thyself not - vegetables are cheap". I wash and dry the gadget (and detachable blades) while the food is cooking, along with my Sabatier Au Carbon. I don't think I have ever detected rust. In any case, you can get replacement blades.

Customer Review: Awesome finger--I mean vegetable--slicer.
Summary: 5 Stars

I love using this for slaws with beets, carrots, and red cabbage. It is nice for slicing garlic as well. Like the other reviews state, you're probably bound to draw blood at least once with this tool, but if you hold your vegetables correctly and don't force it too much, you should be safe. They are cheaper than this at your local Asian market and on eBay.

Customer Review: excellent tool for careful cooks
Summary: 5 Stars

I use this tool every day. I have never cut myself with it, nor have I had any trouble with food catching on the blades. Like any cutting tool, it requires careful use. Used properly, however, it is a wonderful, simple tool. I use it to cut cabbage, fennel and carrots for salads, ginger for stir fries, apples for garnish, etc.
