I bought the cable key ring after having broken open the plastic eye of my car key, attached to a solid split ring on a belt clip. This ring is a large enough diameter (about 1.9") that keys are not so likely to wedge and stress the plastic key eye. If a force does occur on the key eye, this ring can yield instead of breaking the key eye.
The force from the bend of the cable causes enough friction in the clasp threads that I don't expect the fully closed clasp to unscrew accidentally. If you are concerned about accidental opening, then as a precaution, you can do this: Unscrew the clasp and paint the cable crimp portion (not the threads) of the male-threaded part with red fingernail polish. Then, if the clasp is unscrewed just a half-turn, you will see the red warning. You have about 13 more half turns to go before it would accidentally open.
