Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Furi FUR626 Ozitech Diamond Fingers Pro Knife Sharpener

Customer Review: I was skeptical but now a fan
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a wide variety of kitchen knives. For a decades I've sat down every month or so and sharpened them on my diamond block. Also made sure to use a steel often to keep their edges clean and straight.

I also have half a drawer full of random sharpening devices. Some tore the blades, some were too much effort compared to a block, some did nothing at all even with a lot of work.

The Furi is a great little gadget. I was skeptical but it was <$20 so I took the chance especially after all these great reviews.

This (cheaper) version is fairly small and compact. The flower petal design has the flaps peeling away from the sharpening fingers. As previously mentioned, I can see the smaller flaps eventually breaking off.

When you pull the knife across the fingers, there's just the right amount of abrasion. You can feel the 'grab' and even a slight grind of the knife on sharpener. 3 swipes and you're good. It doesn't give a super fine sharpened edge as using graduated grit stones. but it's impressively practical.

Good:
- Sharpens a standard knife really well, fast, and without skill.
- Grinding range is very good: from about .5 inch from the hilt to the very tip of the blade.
- Easy to use.
- Cheap.
- This is a good gift for friends that like to cook.

Notes:
- I wouldn't pull a thin or over-sharpened blade over this. You might tear the blade. For instance, my Mac santoku knife wouldn't do well with this.
- Wonder how long it will last with all of my sharpening. Might have to upgrade to the nicer version.
- Won't do serrated knifes.

Customer Review: Best price including shipping for this great sharpener
Summary: 5 Stars

Checking shipping prices as well as purchase price, I chose Market Warehouse as the best deal. The Sharpener arrived within a week, even with UPS Standard delivery.

The sharpener itself is excellent. None of my knives ever gets completely dull so I didn't have to re-shape an edge. the Furi sharpener took out any hint of burrs with no more than 9 strokes. That was on a chef's knife that had just chopped 5 pounds of carrots, a half dozen onions (very fine), lord knows how many potatoes, a couple heads of cauliflower and a pile of parsley.

I finished the edge with a fine ceramic "steel" as diamond sharpeners like this leave the edge slightly rough. This is absolutely not a complaint. No sharpener can both quickly shape an edge and make it smooth. This step is probably not necessary but does produce a marginally finer edge. I'm a bit fanatic about knife care.

There is one down-side to this sharpener. It does leave slight scratches in the side of the blade if you push too hard on the knife while sharpening. I don't mind but some might.

The bubble packaging included adequate instructions for opening and using the sharpener, something you won't always see with sharpeners.

In reviews for this sharpener from other vendors, a couple of people have asked why this one is so much cheaper than the professional model from Furi. In a word, durability. I've used the pro version in a commercial kitchen and it's much more substantial than this, not that the average home cook will ever abuse the tool the way a underpaid dishwasher will. With reasonable care this should last years.

Customer Review: Terrific knife sharpener
Summary: 5 Stars

My wife was given an expensive Furi knife as a gift. I didn't want this to be relegated to the bottom of the kitchen odd-and-ends drawer because I couldn't sharpen it properly. I have (or had) number of different sharpeners, all useless or difficult to use: tungsten carbide pull-through, traditional steel, can-opener &c. So I got the Ozitech because it's Furi's own sharpener.

It's brilliant and easy to use. Not only does it keep the Furi in good shape it did a terrific sharpening job on a lot of other knives I haven't used for years. A quality Victorinox boning knife is now razor-sharp and a pleasure to use. I resurrected a couple of cheap-and-nasty stainless steel Chinese knifes - even they are now useable. We tried the tomato test with the cheap carving knife - just pressed it flat. Ten strokes through the Ozitech and it slices it neatly and easily, and I went to on to carve the roast lamb with it later that evening. It might not hold an edge but with the Ozitech it's quickly restored with 3 or 4 strokes.

The Ozitech isn't in the bottom drawer. It sits next to the knife block on the bench ready to be used when required.

Customer Review: Keep Your Knives Sharp & Your Friend's Knives Sharper
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this because I was getting sick and tired of dull useless knives. I've been cooking more at home and have found that nothing is more upsetting than trying to slice and dice with dull blades. Even my in-laws have this problem; old knives piling up in the drawer that couldn't slice bread or a simple piece of meat without flattening it first, argh! While my mother in law attempted to carve roast with one of her *practically a butter knife edged blades, I decided to test this out on it. I slid the blade's edge against the fingers as instructed (which can be as many as 10-12 times) and after a cleansing swipe of a paper towel to remove excess metal flecks, managed to cut through the meat like butter. Fantastic! It's small, and fits in the same drawer with the other utensils. It's a wonderful sharpener when used correctly. I love it.

Customer Review: simply the best
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this product. This is my third one. I cook professionally and in a few short swipes I have a sharp blade at work or at home instead of dealing with a stone or ruining my knife with one of those grinders. I've tried a lot of other sharpeners. The Wusthoff sharpener pitted my knives and was immediately trashed. This one fixed the pits without removing a lot of extra steel. My knives are an investment and a crucial tool in my job. This is a life-saver and so easy to use. Part of the reason I go through them so fast is that everyone at work always wants to use mine! They are fascinated by the simple and effective design. I cannot say enough about how much easier this makes my job. I love it and will continue to buy them.
