Customer Review: Finally, a quality product!

I used to have a cheap reading light that worked horribly. This one is great. It has a bulky base but the clip side is very slender and doesn't interfere with the pages of the book I'm reading. It clips nice and soundly to hardcovers, and the clip can even be inserted into the spine area on a lot of books. The reticulating "shaft" is easily manipulated and stays put in the desired position. The light is VERY bright, so bright, in fact, that I had to put two layers of masking tape over it to dim it. Unlike my previous light, this one shines on the pages and not in your eyes. It also illuminates all of both pages being read; not just a small spot like other lights. I've had the light for almost two months now and it has been used almost every night without a problem. My wife has even taken to using it quite a bit so I might end up having to get her one as well.Customer Review: The Best Yet

I'll echo the refrain of the other reviewers: I've used many book-lights in my life, and this is by far the best. The light is focused and wonderfully bright; the head is infinitely positionable; and after more than two years of regular use, I've never had any problems with the switch going flaky or the light flickering. Another great thing is that it takes AAA batteries--which, of course, you can buy anywhere. (Many book-lights take obscure types of batteries that are hard to find.) I recently bought a second Fulcrum light to keep with my camping gear. I realize, however, that as with any (relatively) inexpensive item, it probably won't last forever. Eventually, after years of use, it might start to flicker, or the switch might get dirty, or whatever. Hey, whaddaya want for ten bucks?? This is my first booklight; so weigh this review accordingly. After reading all the reviews on Amazon, I decided to go with this one. I've used it for a few months now and I love it. It's light and bright and the light stays EXACTLY where you put it. The light does bleed around the book and light up the room a bit, but I don't see how that's to be avoided.
***FOLLOW-UP***
A few months after I wrote the above, the light began to short out a bit whenever it was touched or moved. Annoying to say the least. I opened up the light and found that the very cheaply constructed switch was not making full contact. After I disassembled, tried to bend it to the correct position, and reassembled it a few times, I eventually fixed it. But I doubt most customers will have the patience or luck to do so.

I've been through a lot of book lights and this is the best I've found so far. Here's what I like:
1) Uses AAA batteries - other lights I've had use watch batteries and cost as much as replacing the whole light when they run out.
2) LED light - this light is nice, bright, and doesn't chew through batteries as quick as other technologies
3) Light lens - This light has a lens that focuses the light on the page, rather than scattering light everywhere.
4) The neck of the light - The neck of this light moves around in a lot of different directions, but doesn't get deformed from use, as has been my experience with other lights.
For the price, this is the best deal I've found.

This book light is perfect for illuminating the full pages in an open book - even a paperback (clip the light to about 30 to 50 pages and it stays put just fine). It is by far the best book light I have found - and I'm a complete addict for reading books in bed. I especially like the the fact that the light is shielded from hurting your eyes while casting more than sufficient light on the book. The battery life is amazing. Three triple A batteries are still very light weight and sufficiently small to be used in a book light. Also, this light makes a great replacement for a candle in a power outage. Since it sits flat on a shelf, table, etc, it illuminates a whole room during a power outage.
