This retro mechanical timer is just the sort of thing I'd been looking for; no batteries to wear out just when you need it the most, and operating it is so simple a child would have no trouble. BUT...you must *read the instructions*. Like anything with moving parts, there is a correct way to operate it. On the back of the package, here are the instructions:
1 Turn Clockwise to 60
2 Turn counterclockwise to the number of minutes required
3 A bell will ring when the minutes have elapsed.
I suspect that all the previous negative reviews of this timer are from people that did not actually read the back of the package, simply assuming that you start by setting it clockwise to the minutes desired. It's an easy mistake to make, but hardly fair to dock the product rating due to user error.
The fox retro run timer that I received is solidly made, reliable, and rings clearly and pleasantly when the minutes are up. I love the magnetic backing that allows me to post it on the fridge or anywhere there's metal. It fits in perfectly with my 50s-themed kitchen. Well worth the price!
