We have had at least one Spider Catcher around the house for several years now - ever since I first read about it and decided to give it a whirl. We recently bought two replacements, as we had carelessly allowed the fibers to get bent (after carelessly losing the little cover that the manufacturer thoughtfully provides). We also bought a couple more for my daughters, who have found them useful.
Some people's fear of spiders is, obviously, greater than others'. If you really can't stand to be near one, maybe Spider Catcher isn't for you - in which case, maybe you should try getting therapy - which can apparently be very effective. Even then, why not pay the small price to buy one and give it a try? It can't hurt. Once you have successfully picked up a couple of spiders and found how painless the process can be, you may conclude that your "phobia" was exaggerated.
I have always found spiders distressing, although I managed to handle them (just about) with the usual ad-hoc apparatus of cups, cardboard, etc. The Spider Catcher has alleviated my discomfort to the point where I sometimes actually get a little lift from picking up a spider and carrying it outside (or just dropping it out of a window onto the lawn). As other reviewers have pointed out, spiders will usually freeze when they feel themselves gripped, so at that point it's "game over" as far as any palpitations are concerned. You can carry the inert little bundle wherever you like, in the assurance that it won't go anywhere until you release it - still safely at arm's length. You do have to be cool and steady when picking them up; snatch too early, and the spider can scuttle off. Unless it has a bolthole to get into, however, you can just wait till it stops and have another go. Spiders on walls (or, worse, the ceiling) present a slightly more advanced challenge - fumble it and you have the nightmare scenario of a flying spider! It can still be done, though: just remember the basics. Open the Catcher to just the right width, calmly and without undue delay place it around the spider, then just release the trigger grip and the bristles will grip automatically.
One small downside: the sticky hook supplied to hang the Spider Catcher from a wall isn't man enough for the job. Ours just fell off in less than a day. No sweat: just prop it up in a corner (the transparent cover saves the bristles from getting damaged) or lay it on some flat surface ready to hand. It takes very little room.

It works by surrounding the spider with bristles that close around the spider, the bristles harmlessly trap the spider, to allow you to pickup and release the spider outside.
