Bought this Whirlpool inlet valve to install on a side-by-side upright 'Kenmore' refrigerator/freezer. The product worked as expected and is producing ice again. The kit comes with alot of extra parts including a 'L' bracket that I used to join to my original bracket. A slight modification of the existing bracket had to be made to accommodate the new inlet valve using the 'L' bracket. Something you can do with a drill and hacksaw.
ORIGINAL PROBLEM/DETAILS: The ice maker was no longer dispensing water into the ice maker during the ice making cycle. As part of the troubleshooting step, it was verified that the ice maker was still working by putting in about 2/3 cup of water manually in the ice tray and letting the ice maker cycle through. Another step further, 120 volt was applied directly to the inlet valve for the water to the ice maker and verified that no water was being dispensed into the ice maker (be careful with this step or hire a trained service personnel). The valve should turn on when applying the 120V and water should flow into the ice maker tray. This is how I knew I had to replace the inlet valve because no water was flowing into the ice maker.
The Whirlpool inlet valve 4318046 solved the problem at a GREAT price! I would recommend this part to everybody, and it's easy to replace. Save yourself some money and repair it yourself!
