Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Excalibur 9 Tray Dehydrator - ED 2900 Dehydrater - Jerky Maker Food Dehydrator Excaliber

Customer Review: From Hobby to Business
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had my Excalibur for over 5 years, and I have used it for several bulk sale items. Tomatoes for dried chips, banannas,$1.99 a case, for chips. White onions 10 cents a pound, dried slices to chop up for everything. Now, I make several types of beef jerky to sell to the men who work on the remote drilling rigs. In one week, part-time, sold 81 half pound bags. Sold out of two types twice; now I bought another Excalibur 2900 to help keep up the production. I lay the meat close to get about 15 pounds on it. In about 9 to 10 hours, makes the meat turn out right. The herbs and veggies dry in about 4 hours; and the flavor is very consentrated. We hit the farmer's market to get real good repeat business prices from the vendors. Forget any dehydrator that doesn't have the rear fan; it allows the foods to dry faster from the circulated air, and not cook the life out of what you want dry. This 9 tray unit is the way to go; chip in with someone on the money; it has a ten year warranty. You will save in the long run on high end products, without having to pay the middle man for all the fun.

Customer Review: The best
Summary: 5 Stars

I use to burn out lots of the round dehydrators you can buy at Target, or similar stores. I make a lot of Beef Jerky and the drippings would get into the fan/heating elements (located at the base), eventually leading to cracking and malfunctions (smoking).
After a lot of research I decided to go with the 9 tray Excalibur. This unit is AWESOME!! You can dehydrate anything! I had so many hot peppers from my garden this year that I just cut them in half and dried them out. You can also dehydrate larger items by skipping a tray or two, something you cannot do in the round types. Since the trays are square you do not have to twist and finagle (sp) beef an other products like the round ones.
As stated by someone else in these reviews the fan and heater are located on the back, so they stay clean. It does have a large footprint and is about as noisy as our hood over the oven, not overly annoying but not super quiet either. Definitely worth every penny if you make a lot of jerky or like to preserve your summer bounty from the garden!

Customer Review: Excellent Dehydrator
Summary: 5 Stars

My tired old round dehydrator finally gave out so I started looking around for a replacement. I found the raw food community seemed to really like this one and the reviews here seemed to back that up so I ponied up more $$ than I've ever paid for a dehydrator. I am very happy with it. 15 square feet of drying racks is a lot! I made more jerky in 8 hours (2 batches) than I could have in 2 days with my old unit. Because of the airflow the jerky meat can be touching and it still dries great! I made a batch of dog treats using the recipe from their website and my dogs love them. I like them too because they're cheap and made with fresh, wholesome ingredients.
So far in 2 weeks I've made 6 pounds of jerky and 2 gross of doggie treats. I've also dried cooked beans, sweet potatoes, roasted chilis, and brocoli for backpacking meals. The trays cleanup easily in the dishwasher but the mesh screens need to be hand washed. This is a great product and it's made in the USA.

Customer Review: This thing is great!

This dehydrator works like a Mac Truck! I love it, it works great.
It's powerful and has temperature control. I did not go for the extra expense of a 26 hour timer, I always manage to find time in a given 26 hour period to check my drying progress.
The mesh liners clean easily in sudsy water.
It's true what they say, it's loud and it's hot... but for crying out loud, there is a powerful fan blowing 95 to 155 degrees of heated air though your fruits and vegetables, what do you expect? That powerful fan is what drys your trays of food evenly.
Get real - If you sit it in your kitchen on a summer day you're going to end up with a hot humid kitchen.
I usually run it in my enclosed patio.
I'm looking forward to it doing double duty in our cold Ohio winters, I'll heat a room while I dry my food.
Yep my cup is 1/2 full, the Excalibur 2900 is work horse that doesn't fool around at dehydrating food.

Customer Review: Best Dehydrator I have ever owned!
Summary: 5 Stars

Since I am a work at home mother, I have a lot of downtime. Usually I read the news or I watched TV, but lots of things changed when I first discovered that it was possible to dehydrate foods. The colorful manual is extremely helpful and has lots of cool recipes and creative things to dehydrate. My husband used a dehydrated many years ago, but he ended up throwing it out because it made the foods very stale and bad tasting. We opened up our excalibur, a huge improvement over the other one. This has 9 racks and drys the food horizontally, so it doesn't require you to rotate the items on the tray. Its a 600 dehydrateor, so it drys it efficiently and quickly.

I think that it is extremely worth it, given all its features. Dried food (fruits, meat, etc.) make great easy snacks for kids. My kids love to eat dried kiwi, because of its tangyness!

I highly recommend this dehydrator, you will not regret your purchase.
