Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of EdgeCraft 610 Chef's Choice Premium Electric Food SlicerCustomer Review: Amazing!!! Best Beef Jerky Making Equipement Ever Summary: 5 Stars
I am completely satisfied, way way way beyond my best expectations.
I've been making Beef Jerky now for almost a year, and the most time consuming task and the most difficult was cutting London Broils into thin uniform strips. Well no more, I just finished slicing about 4 lbs of frozen solid meat in about 10 minutes. I was playing with the cutting thickness and some I had sliced are almost paper thin. I can about see thru those slices of meat. The blade turns slowly and powerfully. Never did the motor sound strained or varied in speed as it sliced all to perfection.
And best is that clean up is a breeze. A few turns with a quarter and the blade comes off simply and then exposing all else for wiping.
This is an entry level slicer that is going to be a workhorse for a long long time as the quality is very high.
Stop your searching -- this is the one!
Customer Review: Very pleased Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this slicer after my old one (17 years old and $50 new) died. I'm not sure if this is a really nice slicer or my old one was just a piece of junk. I opened it up and put it to work today with 10 pounds of semi-frozen venison. I set it to slice thin for jerky and let it go. Even though the inside of the roasts were still frozen, the slicer worked great. The uniformity of the thickness of the slices was very good. My old slicer couldn't keep a uniform thickness at all. The motor never got hot. Clean-up was very nice. I had it taken apart and cleaned in 6 minutes. I make alot of jerky throughout the year and am looking forward to using this slicer. At this time, I will place it in the 5 star category for price paid, however, it is new and I've only just begun..... I will add comments as time passes on.
3-3-06 Still enjoying the slicer. No problems at all.
Customer Review: BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK Summary: 5 Stars
Just had my slicer delivered today. 1 day earlier than promised. Put it to the test as soon as I got home. Sliced a 6lb block of provalone in minutes. I got the block of cheese for $1.96/lb. $3 less than when it is on sale at the grocery store. Sliced a 12lb NY strip loin, once again purchased it whole for $2.79/lb. My savings on slicing myself already paid for 50% of the unit.
As for the unit, super! For $100 you get a very nice slicer that is perferct for the average household. The cheese sliced beautifully and the steaks which are about 7/8" thick cut to perfection. 7/8" is about the max thickness you will get.
Clean up is a breeze. The unit comes apart very easily and it only takes a few minutes to wash it.
My next venture with this slicer is to make beef jerky. I use to cut the meat with a knife. I am looking forward to making my first batch with my new slicer.
Customer Review: Awesome Slicer--couldn't be happier! Summary: 5 Stars
I must have researched slicers for a solid week and kept coming back to the Chef's Choice 610. I was debating between the 9" blade Weston model and the Chef's Choice 610 with a 7-1/2" blade and ultimately went with the Chef's model 610 because of the high number of favorable reviews I read. I also came across several complaints of the Weston motor overheating whereas the Chef's Choice had a reputation for running cool.I have to say I'm extremely happy with my purchase. I'm also impressed with the ease in which the slicer breaks down for cleaning as well as the built-in safety features in particular the blade protection. The blade lock prevents "little finger" from receiving very big cuts from a very sharp blade. The blade not only neatly tucks into the housing, but is hidden by the sliding feeder tray which is locked into place when stored. Outstanding product!
Customer Review: Very nice slicer especially for the price Summary: 5 Stars
I received this slicer as a Christmas gift. I love it. I haven't tried slicing harder meat items such as dry salami but it works great for ham and turkey. I also use it for slicing bread, which was the main reason I wanted it. I've worked in the food industry in the past. It's certainly no Hobart slicer but I have a small kitchen and I'm not doing a lot of heavy prep work. It fits my needs perfectly.
It makes slices paper thin as others have mentioned, to over 1/2 inch thick for those big bread slices. The plastic screw has been replaced with another type of plastic screw. To remove it you need a coin, which fits in the slot nicely. As long as it's not overtightened, I don't think breakage will be an issue.
By being able to slice my own deli meats and breads, this slicer will pay for itself in no time.
I'd recommend this product to my friends.
