Customer Review: Great tool for the weight-watcher.

I've been using this scale for two weeks now, and find it very easy and quick to use. It also has the appearance of a very high quality appliance - it looks nice, and is easy to clean. It does not have a large footprint, so it is not in the way sitting on the kitchen counter.
I use it for calorie counting. It's perfect for either raw or cooked items. It's very simple to place a container or plate on the scale, zero it, and add whatever food item to get its exact weight. Then using the booklet of food item codes, just key in the code, and voila, you get the calorie count and other nutritional data for that food item. If the food item has a nutritional label, by knowing the weight of the food, you can easily calculate the calories of the portion. When you pair the scale with an internet food diary [...] you have a very powerful combination for tracking your diet from day-to-day, and maintaining that "calorie-deficit" that you need to successfully trim pounds.
I initially considered some of the less expensive (and less functional) scales. However, I am very pleased that I purchased this item.

The EatSmart scale was recommended to me by my RD. I hesitated 4 months before purchasing it. Some how my old scale the one with a cracked weighing bowl that required frequent recalibration and didn't weigh in grams or give nutrition information was working well for me....NOT really. After deciding to spend the extra money for the scale I was pleased. It was smaller then I thought and actually looks nice. I leave it on my table. And all the information it gives, makes completing my food log much easier ( cal, protein, carbs, fat, elytes). I have lost 110# and have regained 20# back. The scale was just the thing to get me back on track 50 lbs left and a new scale to boot.The scale does give lot of information. But it is making me more aware of sodium content, etc. If you have to make the decision to get more then you need in a scale, then not enough then get this scale. My only regret is waiting 4 months to purchase it.

So I had initially bought the Salter 1450 on the recommendation of a friend on an internet message board. While the scale worked fine, the database of foods was impractical (lots of packaged/junk foods) for somebody trying to maintain health with diabetes. Additionally, the search functionality (scrolling through) took more time than it was worth and just created headaches for me.
My local diabetes center recommended the EatSmart to me, and so far i have been thoroughly impressed. Seems to be a much more "professional" approach to this scale, with a database tailored specifically to whole foods and an easy to use interface. Best of all, the nutrition facts calculator is an additional feature that allows me to monitor net carbs with any packaged foods i happen to eat (this can be done with any food, so I make my own healthy 100 calorie snacks!) It also sits nicely on my kitchen counter and looks aesthetically pleasing, unlike the Salter that looked like a laptop and I was ashamed to have around. EatSmart was a little cheaper too so i saved a few bucks. Highly recommended

This scale is a huge time saver for me when preparing food for my Type 1 diabetic toddler. I can set the serving size and total carbs and just place the item on the scale and instantly I have an accurate carb count. This is especially nice for things like chips and spaghetti that is sometimes difficult to accurately count. The food item book that comes with it is very thorough and covers almost all of the fruits (and many, many other foods) that we eat on a regular basis. I just enter the food item number and place the item on the scale to get the carb count. Voila!! I love it and depend on it daily!
Speaking of depending on it...when I recently had a problem with it not sticking on the proper weight (it was shifting up and down with a steady object), I called the customer service number and he went through a couple of things to try. When they didn't work, he didn't hesitate to send me a new one and we'll get it within the week! We are so grateful for this amazing tool in our daily diabetes life and for it to come with excellent customer service is a real bonus!

I have been using my new EatSmart Nutrition Scale EatSmart Digital Nutrition Scale - Professional Food and Nutrient Calculator for several weeks now and have found it is the key to losing weight. The scale makes it very easy to keep track of what I eat...even when I prepare an entertainment meal for guest. Using the numerous built-in food choices and the "Tare" feature, I can capture the calorie value of the various foods AS I PUT THEM ON MY PLATE. That assures strict compliance to portion control, which is my number one challenge. Everyone underestimates the food they eat by simply looking at it and guessing the amount. But now, no matter what I cook, I can be reasonable in what I eat. I have lost 16 pounds in 4 1/2 weeks by simply watching what I eat and keeping under 2000 calories a day. No special exercise/plan/food...just better knowledge of what I consume.
I not only would recommend this product to friends...I HAVE.
