Customer Review: Purchasing the EatSmart Digital Nutrition Scale was a smart move!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've used an inexpensive food scale in the past to weigh foods and figure out basic calories for the purpose of weight loss. That was an eye-opening experience at the time. Recently diagnosed as a Type 2 diabetic, I found the inexpensive scale just wasn't going to work any more. Weight loss is still a goal, but now figuring out actual carbohydrate grams is a must. I turned to Amazon.com to look for a better way and found the EatSmart Digital Nutrition Scale. Now I can weigh my portion sizes for any food and find out not only calories but also carbohydrate and fat grams as well as additional nutritional information. I find the scale very easy to use. Place your food item on the scale, type in the 3-digit code for that food, and there you have everything you need to know. Making combination foods, like casseroles, etc.? Weigh ingredients and write down the information needed, add up all the numbers, and divide the total calories of the food by the typical serving you eat. It takes a bit of time to start, but if you record this information in a notebok, you have it ready for the next time. I also like being able to weigh my packaged foods, input the data from the nutritional label, and figure out exactly how much I'm eating without having to "guesstimate." The scale is sleek and compact and does everything I personally could ask of it. I love my EatSmart Digital Nutrition Scale!

Customer Review: Finally found one....
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been looking for a nutritional scale for months...one that would provide me with carbohydrates and yet not be a complicated piece of technology! (I want to eat my meal when it's ready...not hours later)

This scale has been the answer. I have type 1 diabetes and have lived with it for over 40 years. I have minimal complications and want to keep it that way. I manage my diabetes using an insulin pump which is tremendous, but because I'm working very hard to eat regular food -- less pre-packaged foods -- I needed a means to figure out the carbohydrates of everyday foods we don't get out of a box...fresh foods, and especialy unusual portion sizes since that is how I calculate the amount of insulin I take before meals.

A good example of how simple this is to use is just this: According to many carbohydrate books, an orange is 21-24 grams of carbohydrates. When you calculate insulin dosage by estimating, it can be a real problem if the amount is off creating either a over bolus of insulin or not getting enough to cover those carbs. I put the orange on the scale...hit the code from the book and it gave me exactly how many carbs were in it...20.5. It's wonderful!

Easy to clean, attractive and doesn't take up much of a footprint on the counter. I'm VERY pleased!

Customer Review: Impressive Scale, Great Company.
Summary: 5 Stars

This scale has a lot of feature pumped into a simple to understand interface. I love it.

Our daughter was diagnosed with diabetes earlier this year, so we need to closely monitor her carb intake. When we started, we used measuring cups and a cheap scale. Not fun at all when you have a 2 year old screaming for their breakfast and needing to do math in your head to get the number right. So we had heard about electronic scales that had nutritional information right in the device and found this one. Once we got it we fell in love with it. We just enter the food code or enter the Info from the back of the Cheerios box and start to pour. It's that simple. The best part I have found for my situation is doing food subtraction. When my 2 year old starts to throw the food on the floor, I just pick it up and weigh it to know what amount of Carbs she did not eat, which would need to be replaced.

The company is also very helpful, the scale we had bought initially broke, and displayed ERROR whenever we started it up. We called them and discussed the issue; they sent a new one the next day to us. They were great to work with. We ended up finding it so useful; we bought one for both sets of grandparents so when we are over there we can manage the meals with the same ease.

Customer Review: Perfect Scale for the Perfect Diet

EatSmart Digital Nutrition Scale - Professional Food and Nutrient Calculator
I've been using a simple, spring type diet scale and, from the mass of the food item measured, calculating the grams of various macro-nutrients. With EatSmart Digital Nutrition Scale, the number of calculations I have to do has been greatly reduced since so many food items are already programmed into the scale. I can also easily program it for items not in the scale's data base. And, what I find really fantastic is that if I want to consume a certain number of grams of protein, fat, or carbohydrate, I can simply program the scale for that food item and then add the food until it shows the exact number of grams/milligrams of the nutrient I want.
For those people who trust measuring the VOLUME of food, you will be in for a big surprise when you compare the calories in say 1/2 cup of oatmeal with the real weight from this scale. One 1/2 cup serving of uncooked oatmeal is SUPPOSED to be 40 grams (150 calories) but the EatSmart accurately measures 1/2 cup of uncooked oatmeal as being 60 grams (225 calories)! What a pleasure to know that now I am eating the real amount of food that I want.

Customer Review: Fantastic Scale, Fantastic Company
Summary: 5 Stars

I researched all the available nutrtion scales on the market and decided on the EatSmart. And what a good choice it's been. It's truly a great product and performs exactly as advertised, providing extensive nutritional information that's not available from any other scale. You'll be amazed at the discrepancies when you compare the actual weight of some foods with what's listed on the nutrition information printed on the package. For example, the information printed for spoon-sized shredded wheat is for a one-cup serving (52 grams). If you weigh the cereal, though, 52 grams is a lot closer to being 3/4 of a cup, not a full cup. Same for potato chips, pretzels and other irregularly shaped foods. And regarding the company that makes the scale: The scale that arrived didn't function properly. I e-mailed the company and within 20 minutes got a phone call from the vice president, who had me do some tests and quickly determined that the scale was defective. He said he'd send a replacement immediately. Sure enough, a new scale arrived as promised and it works perfectly. That's customer service. At any rate, I can't say enough good things about the scale. Like me, I'm sure you'll be pleased if you buy one.
