Customer Review: Makes great tasting yogurt with ease

Trying to find a store bought yogurt that was low in sugar and also tasted delicious was difficult, so I decided to try making my own yogurt using the addition of homemade jams and a sugar substitute. I also knew that I did NOT want to fill small individual jars each time I made yogurt. With this Easiyo yogurt maker, I have been able to make thick, delicious pure tasting yogurt WITHOUT the addition of sugars and colorants etc., and I can do it all in just one container. It's great!
I have used 2% milk, BUT I've achieved better results with whole milk.
METHOD:
- 4 cups whole milk heated to 180 degrees and then fridge cooled for several hours before using
- 1/2 cup powdered milk for a thicker consistency
- 1/3 cup starter ( Initially purchased a plain organic yogurt for starter. Since making my initial batch of yogurt, I just
save 1/3 cup of freshly made yogurt as starter for next batch.)
This is all you need for a plain yogurt, but if you want a flavoured yogurt simply add things such as berries, extracts or jam.
To the above ingredients I usually add:
- 1 teaspoon real vanilla
- sugar substitute to taste (I like 4 packets)
- 1/3 cup or so, homemade sugar free jam (will need to lessen milk amount by 1/3 cup to accommodate this addition in jar)
I usually buy frozen strawberries and blueberries at the wholesale clubs to make my jams. It's cheaper than fresh berries, yet
just as tasty.
Place your desired ingredients in the yogurt jar, cover and shake to blend. Boil water and add to the larger thermos as per directions. Insert the yogurt jar, place cover on thermos, and let the ingredients process for your desired length of time. I process my yogurt for about 8 hours and love the flavour. I have processed it for upwards of 10 hours but it was a little too tangy for my taste. As the yogurt cools in the refrigerator, it will continue to thicken slightly. Great yogurt!
**NOTE- If homemade berry jam is used, much will settle to the bottom and/or float to the top, so after you've refrigerated your yogurt, you
will have to remove the yogurt from the container to stir and blend together before use. It is worth this extra step!!
The merits of this yogurt maker are:
- its simplicity
- inexpensive to make yogurt
- yogurt tastes great
- non-electric, therefore energy saving and no remembering to unplug
-only ONE container to clean and place in the refrigerator (who wants multiple small jars to clean and find space for in the fridge?)
After experimenting 2-3 times to find the right consistency and flavours, I have to say that I am very pleased with the yogurt this yogurt maker produces. I will never eat store bought yogurt again!
